Pisces Full Moon Eclipse September 16

Posted by Sheri Horn Hasan - November 13, 2016 - Astrology

This Pisces Full Moon Lunar Eclipse at 24 degrees 19 minutes Pisces—which falls under the same series of eclipses as the recent September 1 Virgo New Moon Solar Eclipse—serves to reiterate the same message and present us with the same opportunity.

And what’s that?

To tackle the truth via viewing situations and people as they really are rather than as we want them to be…

So how are they really?

REALITY BITES

The Pisces Full Moon Lunar Eclipse opposing the Sun in Virgo, provides us the chance to see clearly the shadow side of Virgo archetypal energy.

It’s now that we might we catch a glimpse of how releasing negative perfectionist energy can inspire us to toward greater self-love and self-compassion in order that we may extend such love—ultimately–into the realm of the collective unconscious.

Why?

Because Virgo energy can be tough on itself—a judgmental critic of nitpicky proportions who may take us to task for an un-dotted “i” or an uncrossed “t.”

Such a slave to detail might be surprised to find—once she looks up from her critical evaluation of whatever’s in her sights—that life might be a lot easier and far more pleasant if she gave up such hyper-critical behavior.

Now I’m not saying that Virgo energy is bad—not at all! It’s those who carry Virgo archetypal energy who deserve to get paid for minding details. After all, where would we be without the writers, editors, graphic designers, architects, carpenters, and accountants—to mention only a few–who help make life easier for the rest of us because they sweat the details…

Rather, I’m talking about the kind of hyper-critical nature that’s rewarded (sadly) only with negative feelings that run the gamut from lack of self-acceptance all the way to self-hatred.

THE SOULFUL PATH

This Pisces Moon is conjunct wounded healer Chiron, asking that we release any negative emotions around our inability to love ourselves before we go and give away what little love we have to others and deplete our own well even further…

Chiron conjunct the Pisces Moon reminds us that self-compassion and empathy are necessary for us to find our way out of our self-critical cage without destroying our self-esteem totally before we allow ourselves to exit…

As if that isn’t enough, this configuration opposite the Virgo Sun highlights where we may choose to play the victim or martyr role in any relationship or circumstance as we attempt to live up to our own idea of perfection. In this way, perfectionism becomes a kind of negative escapism from the possibility of drowning in a Piscean sea of chaos.

On a positive note, we’re provided the chance here to recognize that there’s hope for us after all…hope that, though many of us may be stuck in our “feeling less than” rut, we can undoubtedly still move forward to accomplish our dreams.

The first order of business is to move the myopic focus off of ourselves in order to reduce that hyper-vigilant detail-oriented introspective self-critique, and to think about shifting it outward into the wider world where—instead of hindering us–we may be rewarded.

PERFECT SCHMERFECT

Giving us the push to do so is Mars, which squares both luminaries and Chiron, and is trine to Uranus at the Pisces Full Moon Lunar Eclipse. In addition, the Pisces Moon/Chiron semi-sextiles Uranus, as the Virgo Sun quincunxes this planet of sudden, unexpected change.

So, while we are intent upon releasing our need to further devolve into the ever-elusive concept of a “perfect” individual, this may invoke some anger. Kind of like “you mean I’ve been trying to be perfect all this time and now I find out there is no such thing?!”

Or, the Mars square may manifest through irritation or anger that comes from the outside—more like what happens when another or others don’t like it if you refuse to “save” or sacrifice for them…

Of course, if one favors the victim mentality inherent in Pisces’ archetypal range of energies, you may feel put upon by others who decide they no longer want to save you!

Either way, the Mars square can be just the kick in the pants we need to get moving in the right direction. So, if you let it rip in some manner as Mars squares this Pisces Full Moon Lunar Eclipse and Chiron, know that you might find smooth sailing, as the Mars trine to Uranus is like having the wind at your back—when you’re ice skating!

You might as well go with that flow because resistance is probably futile anyway, even if the Pisces Full Moon’s quincunx/sextile to Uranus causes a bit of pebble-in-your-shoe type discomfort…

BACK TO REALITY

Is the reality that we must be perfect in order to have earned the right to not only survive, but to thrive and live happily ever after?

Or is the reality that we benefit from our mistakes because as we learn we grow, and when we grow we become capable of functioning as inspirational individuals within the collective?

Full Moons are times of release. With a Pisces Full Moon, we are asked to let go of all that does not serve of a Virgoan nature, to reach out and embrace a higher spirituality, and to widen out our lens from myopic concentration on minutiae to see the bigger holistic picture…

Don’t forget that Mercury’s still retrograde until September 22 and that Saturn’s still square Neptune and the transiting Nodes—it ain’t over ‘til it’s over, as they say. There’s still plenty of opportunity to rethink, review, revise, re-imagine, and reincorporate into our psyches the notion that peace begins within…

Every “I’m not good enough because…” thought can be countered by the light shining upon it through this Pisces Full Moon. Pisces can be the sign of the dreamer, or one who believes in a world of blissful interconnectedness—no hate, no war, no divisions between humans, no cruelty—where there is only one unified notion: We are all one…

Let this full moon illuminate for us all the bigger picture—that no wo/man is an island, and that everyone’s imperfections are precisely what makes them perfect!

Virgo Full Moon February 22

Posted by Sheri Horn Hasan - February 22, 2016 - Astrology
The Virgo Full Moon brings a little discernment, a little clarity, a little organization to our chaos.

She reminds us that out of chaos the universe was born. That out of chaos primordial Haldane Soup gave way–when the spark of life was introduced—to an evolutionary process that ultimately gave birth to Mother Earth herself.

In short, the Virgo Full Moon reminds us that out of chaos comes clarity.
However, if you think you were supposed to be born with total clarity you are more than likely mistaken. It takes time for most of us to muddle through the meaning of our early lives and to put the metaphorical and concrete meanings of these events and experiences into some kind of coherent chronological, archetypal, psychological perspective.

Pisces energy is primordial, and the polarity between Virgo and Pisces is like the process of cooking the stew from which the ultimate meal is made. Initially what goes into that stew can be perceived as a random confusing hodge-podge of ingredients.

However, when the stew’s ingredients are blended together–transported from refrigerator to stove to table, & transposed from raw to fully cooked–only then are we able to serve up a nutritiously delicious fortifying meal.
From Chaos May Come Our Dancing Star!
The challenge is to find meaning in the Piscean archetype even though it’s often a muddled, confused, chaotic, swirling mess—like the finger painting by a child who can “see” the entire scene he’s depicting in his mind’s eye, but who’s creation does not actually explain itself…

How do we find meaning in this? We go to Virgo.

Virgo is an earth sign. It represents health, service, servitude, and our daily routine as it relates to the 6th House in our charts. Ruled by Mercury, Virgo has to do with what our intellect makes of the information it’s collected from different sources. Virgo is the portion of Mercury energy that processes this information, categorizes it, slots it into the appropriate file folders, then synthesizes and analyzes it in in order to draw a conclusion.

Virgo asks us to cite our sources, name our experts, quantify and qualify our experiments and keep track of their results. Yes, she can be a harsh task mistress, but she’s only trying to introduce to us the concept that we must back up our suppositions with fact.

It’s our Virgo energy that says: “Well, that’s an interesting idea…how do you think it would work in the real world? Can you show me some proof?” Once analyzed, this information can be instrumental in providing perspective to determine if a dream, vision, or plan will prove possible or impossible to implement.
Release Self-Criticism, Practice Discernment
The shadow side of Virgo energy can be ultra-perfectionism. But when the Full Moon shines its light on the Sun in Pisces, it introduces to the Piscean archetype its alter-ego energy, which says: “Wait. Stop. Have you vetted that idea through the logical process? Have you set it down on paper? Tested It out in the real world to see if the idea really will fly?”

In this way, the Virgo Full Moon urges us to release any ultra-perfectionist tendencies that ultimately do not serve our higher good. We may use our good judgment and objective analysis, but NOT to beat ourselves up with self-criticism!

This Virgo Full Moon may have a tough job to do this month because it opposes not only the Sun in Pisces but Neptune in Pisces as well. The Sun will then move forward to join with Neptune, the planet of confusion, illusion, and delusion on February 29.

Our dreams now may be chaotic, confusing, disorganized, seemingly prophetic, and potentially healing. Visions that reveal neither place nor time may be dismissed as unrealistic because they don’t fit nicely–yet–into the whole big picture jig saw puzzle of life.

However, the Virgo Full Moon asks: do your dreams, visions, and thoughts stand up to the test of manifest reality? Or, like many visions, are they simply ephemeral daydreams, mirages destined to evaporate the closer we seem to get to them?

She reminds us to evaluate, not necessarily eliminate, our dreams and visions—as they are still in their raw form, not yet analyzed as possible or impossible, practical or impractical…the Virgo Moon merely casts a sliver of light—a spotlight if you will—on the higher potential nature of such Piscean possibilities, which is that out of chaos clarity may be born…

So, if you are of a Piscean nature and your visions and dreams lead you to yearn for something more in this world—such as the perfect love, the perfect poem, the perfect anything—you’ll be tremendously assisted by the realization that such a perfect love or creation, once it stands the test of Virgoan scrutiny, may well survive in the more literal, physical world.

Remember, out of clarity comes…well, whatever you’ve been dreaming about—as long as you release any negative Virgo tendency toward self-criticism, and add a little practical, detail-oriented, analytic Virgo energy to your stew…

Sun Enters Pisces February 19, 2016

Posted by Sheri Horn Hasan - February 21, 2016 - Astrology

We have so much learn when the Sun enters Pisces!

Why is that, you ask?

Well, when the Sun enters Pisces, he is ruled for the month by both Neptune (the modern ruler of Pisces) and Jupiter (the traditional ruler of Pisces.)

What’s the difference between these two?

I’m so glad you asked!

Ruled by Jupiter—the planet of expansion of consciousness—the sign of the fishes is about faith. This is because Pisces represents two fishes yoked together, but attempting to swim in opposite directions. One is moving toward source energy (a.k.a., the ouroboric waters of birth, or the womb), the other out toward life itself…

How much faith does it take in one’s lifetime to venture out in into the often messy, seamy, mixed up—chaotic—world?

As a defense against making this trip out into the harsh glare of the uncertain, often cruel, world many of us seek to retreat.

Where do we retreat to?

Essentially, we try to go back to the womb. Back to mother. Back where it was safe and all our needs were met effortlessly. We never wanted for anything there, did we? When tired, we slept, when hungry, we ate…life was simple and oh, so gloriously peaceful…

Ruled by Neptune—the planet of illusion, confusion, & delusion—the sign of the fishes takes on a slightly different orientation. This orientation is fraught with challenges, because venturing out into the cold, cruel world—far away from the certainty of mother’s womb where all needs were met instantaneously and without question—is, well, confusing!

What do we find when we take this path?

Often, we are vexed at every turn, unsure if the blinking lights we see around us mean “stop” or “go…” How can we tell what is real? I mean, it’s so different—and disorienting!–out here…

Neptune’s rulership of the sign Pisces brings to the forefront—as the Sun enters Pisces until March 19—the potential possibility of self-delusion, endless idealistic dreaming, longing for something or someone ethereal to save us (the knight on the white horse anybody?) and mistaking it all for the real deal.

Victim Or Martyr

Hence, both rulers point toward avenues through which we can develop trust, both in the world around us and in our role in that world.

In short, the pitfalls are many when we deal with Neptune energy as it relates to Pisces. Many times we may mistake something we think is of value only to find, in the end, that it’s really worthless. Other times we may think people, things, and parts of ourselves are worthless…

In this way, Neptune often extends to us the notion that somehow we are destined to be either victims of our fate, or martyred by it. How can the world be so cruel? we may wonder…how can I stay out here when it’s so safe and warm back in the womb?

So we become the victim—to anyone and anything that provides us with the excuse to swim back to mommy.

If we manage to avoid the pitfall of playing the victim, we must then still overcome the hurdle of falling into the trap of becoming the martyr. This often consists of believing in someone or something SO strongly—seeing only what we want to see, the good, the positive, the artistic, the dream—that we sacrifice ourselves to him, her, or it.

The problem here becomes the fact that we don’t realize that in order to be a true martyr we must expect nothing in return. Yup, that’s right—nothing!

When one can search one’s heart and truly understand that giving and believing comes with no guarantees (either karmic or more immediate), only then can we understand  that the only valuable in this equation—and one that’s truly priceless—is our love for ourselves.

When we become aware that Neptune’s rulership of Pisces brings with it creativity, spirituality, & psychic awareness, it can take the edge off of an “all that glitters is not gold,” devastating disappointment—in people, relationships, dreams, etc.

And through these elements, the universe assures us of our own, innate knowledge (dare I say trust?) that there is something behind the random movements of the universe; something that carries MEANING for each of us, collectively and individually.

The Jupiter/Neptune Dream Team

Neptune provides us with the capability to envision and dream, and it’s this energy—when used positively–that may lead us to our truth, or that in which we can ultimately truly believe.

On the other hand, Jupiter’s rulership of Pisces can bring to us an expanded awareness not only ourselves but of the world around us—and of our complete faith in that world…

How?

It’s Jupiter who gives us conviction and the sense that we have the right to choose that in which we believe. Further, it’s Jupiter who allows us to KNOW that we have the right to change our choices–without judgment by ourselves or anyone else!

In other words, we choose our beliefs, regardless of whether we are provided with concrete, empirical, physical proof of them. Jupiter brings to us our capability for this element of faith without proof…

Neptune gives us the seeds, the dream, the ephemeral feelings, the sights, the visions, and the psychic, creative, and spiritual energy that can propel our concepts and creations up and out into the world…but we need Jupiter’s faith to be able to believe in ourselves enough to attempt to make our dream manifest, to mold it into something tangible, concrete, and real.

Go forth and dream, I say—but don’t forget to have the courage of your conviction in yourself that you can make your dreams come true!

Virgo New Moon September 13

Posted by Sheri Horn Hasan - September 13, 2015 - Astrology

SOLAR ECLIPSE ACCOMPANIES VIRGO NEW MOON!

The Virgo New Moon is upon us! This monthly Moon/Sun union–when the Moon races up to and then past the Sun–ushers in decidedly Virgo-esque energy.

Now and for the next two weeks, this Virgo New Moon energy kicks off the lunar month. As the Moon waxes larger and larger (until she moves into Aries and opposes the Sun in Libra on September 27), she calls us all to make the highest and best use of our intuitive energies.

The cycles of the Moon affect us all…and all New Moon’s are seed-planting times.

So whatcha gonna plant this month?

I’ll tell you what, your best bet is to make it something centered around a Virgo-related theme…

And what is that? What does Virgo represent?

The Mercury-ruled sign of Virgo–the polar opposite of the sign Pisces, concerns itself with making order out of chaos.

To many who carry Virgo energy–either via their Sun, Moon, Ascendant, rulership of a planet, angle, or South Node–cleanliness equals good health, and work equals service…

This means that–when present in your individual energetic makeup–helpful Virgoan attention to detail is key. I always say that those of us who carry Virgo energy CAN’T not notice the details! And this can drive some of us–and often our partners, friends, colleagues, etc.–a little bit crazy!

In addition, Virgo-influenced individuals (because Virgo is ruled by Mercury, the god of communication) may speak, write, create, or otherwise communicate in a straightforward, precise, accurate, right-on-the-money kind of way.

In short, Virgo does not care for sloppy, slovenly, messy, or inaccurate people or things!

When this energy is utilized for jobs and activities that require attention to detail (such as editing, graphic design, financial accounting, carpentry, etc.) it shines forth in our lives as a beacon to follow…

However, when Virgo energy is taken to extremes, it may manifest as someone who’s overly critical (particularly of herself!), TOTALLY in control of her environment, and uber neat, fussy, or otherwise inclined toward the impeccable…

VIRGO AND TRAUMA

This may be the result of an early life that was fraught with chaos. Those who experienced the trauma of never knowing when something unexpected might happen may create an environment NOW in which there is a place for everything and everything is in its place…

This provides a modicum of sanity to those who carry Virgo energy. Especially if one experienced not knowing when dad might come home drunk, a brother might sneak into their room at night, or mom might retreat yet again into her bedroom and forget to make dinner, Virgo compensates for such shocks by developing a hyper-vigilant stance.

Thus, one becomes uber-alert and extremely sensitive to one’s surroundings, noticing every missing button, every hair out of place, every crooked picture on the wall, and so on…

Such sensitivity is a defense against the unknown. If early life was inconsistent, threatening, or scary–regardless of why–those who carry Virgo energy prominently will likely seek to shield themselves against surprises by seeking to always be on top of their environment and consistently in control.

On the other hand, if life was relatively calm during one’s early years, the possibility exists that one may simply have felt the sting of criticism often and taken it to heart until that outside criticism ultimately becomes internalized.

This insidious internalized “voice” then perpetuates the notion that one needs to be “perfect” to be accepted.

Tendencies toward perfection may help explain why many people who carry Virgo energy gravitate toward animals, particularly pets.

When everything seems out of control, when that external OR internal voice has brought you the point where you’ve taken just about all the negative criticism you can, turning to souls who love us unconditionally often proves to be good medicine.

Great comfort  of the kind that requires no speech can be derived from such gentle, patient, understanding, and loving spirits…

BEST USE OF NEW MOON/ECLIPSE ENERGY

Start your month off right with new beginnings!

Since a partial Solar Eclipse accompanies this Virgo New Moon @20 degrees Virgo, it ushers in a time not only to set new intentions but to expect the unexpected as well…

Solar Eclipses are likened to a jump start (think dead car battery and you’ll get what I mean…) They can set us off on a different, previously unplanned, path and–depending on what house they fall into in your chart (ditto for the Virgo New Moon!)–expose us to new information or ways of thinking.

As noted, unexpected events may not particularly please those who carry Virgo energy, so it benefits those of us who do to not only take it in stride, but to use what we learn in new ways by looking at it from a different perspective.

What if, instead of guarding AGAINST the unexpected, you took charge and co-created yourself a new reality? What would happen then?

For example, New Moon time is perfect for making a list of what you’d like to see occur or what you’d like to accomplish. This can be for the month or for the long term, it doesn’t matter.

Put this list in writing or speak it aloud as doing so solidifies your intent.

THE VIRGO CREATIVE

If you are a writer, creative, or intuitive, use the both the Virgo New Moon and eclipse to jump start your writing or other creative endeavors. Setting the intention to work on a project is perfect! (Soon Mercury will station retrograde again on September 17, denoting time to work on old projects rather than anything new!)

Set the intention to befriend the voice in your head that tells you your efforts are “not good enough, need improvement, aren’t original,” or “that no one will like or need you…”

Virgo is always about being of service, and the highest and best service you can perform is to eliminate the need for perfection from your life. In this way, you help yourself first and then have plenty of energy and time to help others…

The bad news is that you ARE NOT PERFECT–AND NEVER WILL BE!

The good news is: a) you’re not supposed to be; and b) you’re perfect in your imperfection!

Chew on that for a while and then get out your paper and pen (or computer) and have at releasing all those “written-in-stone” beliefs that will no longer serve your new reality–the one you’ll start creating today…

Virgo Full Moon: Discernment Means Clarity Not Criticism!

Posted by Sheri Horn Hasan - March 4, 2015 - Astrology

Virgo Full Moon

Move From Chaotic Subconscious to Creative Manifest Reality!

The Virgo Full Moon tomorrow (March 5) highlights the schism between chaos and discernment. The most negative manifestation of Virgo energy is criticism…the most positive is discernment.

Discernment: The ability to see and understand people, things, and situations clearly and intelligently, according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary.

The difference? Well, anyone who’s heard (or said) “you’re gonna wear those shoes with that outfit?” knows what I’m talkin’ about…anyone who’s allowed herself to create with reckless abandon by dipping into the chaotic flowing river of creativity within but who stops herself from completing the creative process because of self-criticism–well I think she knows who I’m talking about, too…

Here’s the deal: This Full Moon in Virgo highlights the chaos within each of us inherent in the current energies of the Sun in Pisces. However, such chaos represents the prima materia–the primative formless base of all matter from which life springs–the foundation of our individual creativity.

Virgo energy helps us with perspective. We can see more clearly how we can fashion something out of that prima materia of our souls…and what we create is not meant to be criticized, it’s meant to be continually shaped and molded into something better.

When we do not censor, judge, or criticize, we free our creative instincts to lead us where they may. We may write, draw, paint, sing, compose, film photograph, dance–you name it–with the reckless abandon of a child unaware that judgment even exists.

This Virgo Full Moon is here to tell us “there is no judgment, no criticism–it’s all good because it comes from you!”

Rarely is our first draft our final publication-ready manuscript. All professional editors and publishers know this…

Here’s a thought: Why not replace that old, tired, energy-draining “I am not worthy ” shit with something new, something a lot more positive and uplifting than this psychologically downward spiraling notion?

Why judge your creations? Why criticize your own creativity?

When you think about it, this simply doesn’t make sense! Aren’t you here to participate, to share your light with the world?

I say silence all those naysaying voices in your head–dismiss them with a wave of one hand, while with the other you are already jotting down ideas because you’re in the zone of creating something new…something fabulous!

Only when we impose upon ourselves criticism (and fear others’s criticism) do we become inhibited. If we stop worrying about it, we can bring into fruition some amazing things!
