Mercury Flies Into Aries March 21

Posted by Sheri Horn Hasan - March 23, 2016 - Astrology

The Sun already moved into the sign of Aries on March 20 and Mercury races now to catch up with him. Mercury flies into Aries and his speediness may manifest in our individual lives here on Earth through thought, speech, actions and/or reactions…

As noted previously, Aries is an energy that throws it out there and waits to see what comes back. This is how those who carry a lot of Aries energy in their makeup learn: through other’s reactions.

When Mercury flies into Aries, speech may be rapid fire, full of passion, anger, and capable of moving and/or inciting others. For those who are cerebral, Mercury in Aries can lead us down a lot of labyrinthine highways and bi-ways as our neurons and synapses explode with activity.

However, when that activity is not followed up by will or purpose it can find itself getting jammed. The thoughts that traverse neurons and jump synapses fast and furiously may have little concern for clarity or diplomacy, so intent are they only on being heard.

Without a motivation, Mercury in Aries becomes like Don Quixote flailing his sword at tilting windmills.

If you’re going to bother to think, then Mercury’s move into Aries represents an excellent time to put your thoughts into action. Mercury in Aries—the god of communication in the archetypal sign of expression of the personal will–can get the job done!

Carpe Diem!

When Mercury flies into Aries, seize the day! Try to make the most of it! If lightning strikes in the form of a cerebral idea, don’t lose it or let it wash away with the tides of inaction. If thoughts come fast and furious, jot them down, record them, or in some way capture them. It’s the excitement—the passion—of this energy you want to capture in your words.

If you have other creative abilities, Mercury in Aries is useful to you there, as well. Expressed positively, Mercury in Aries can aid the creative process and help channel down those ideas for action.

Sit down at the piano, pull out your easel and paints, get on the dance floor, haul out your camera and maybe take more than just a few selfies, haha…

When this energy plays out negatively, however, it’s more than likely because somewhere else in our lives we have blocked Aries energy. This kind of repression of the ability to express our individual personal will—or our desire to act, speak, create–can mean that our own repressed WILL is projected out and comes back at us from the outside in the form of another or others’ assertive words or actions.

Likewise, if you have energetically porous boundaries, as do many authors, creatives, and intuitives, Mercury going through Aries may allow you to pick up too much of other people’s animosity. Then, in frustration, because you don’t know what to do with this negative energy, YOU may act out the lower side of Aries, including allowing it to implode into depression…

Low side Aries energy expresses as fatigue, depression, anger, overly aggressive words or behavior, overly sexual behavior, and violent actions–whether such violence is perpetrated against oneself, others, or both.

Best Ways To Express When Mercury Flies Into Aries…

Mercury in Aries often presents us with a double-edged sword. When energy is expressed freely and without restraint we can accomplish something. This, in turn, usually makes us feel good.

Taking action may be important, but just as important should be consideration of who either stands in the way of that action, or who may be harmed by virtue of our taking such action.

Our lives are our choice. How we express ourselves and how we utilize Mercury in Aries energy doesn’t have to play out negatively through temper tantrums, arguments, moving too fast and causing an accident, or saying things we don’t really mean in the heat of the moment…

Here in the U.S. we have a right to express ourselves under the First Amendment of our Constitution. But the U.S. Supreme Court decided long ago that we do not have the right to scream “fire!” in a crowded theater and thereby cause a stampede that might result in harm to others.

Channeling our messages in ways others want to see, hear, participate in, or act on, them is far more conducive to letting Aries energy flow having them positively received…

VENUS STATIONS DIRECT SEPT. 6

Posted by Sheri Horn Hasan - September 6, 2015 - Astrology

WHO DO YOU LOVE?

Venus, whose archetypal energies help us to identify that which we truly value, stops her backward motion today and begins to move forward once again — in the creative sign of Leo.

Venus remains under Leonine influence until October 8, when she continues her zodiacal journey into the sign of Virgo.

Since July 31 — the day Venus stationed retrograde and appeared to move backward in the heavens — reports abound of closet purgings, sightings of ex-lovers and friends, and perhaps some paying down of debt or at least the understanding that one must get a better handle on one’s finances.

So what was up when Venus (which archetypally represents beauty, harmony, peace, and all that we consider of value) retrograded back through the fiery creative sign of Leo — the sign of individual creativity and the archetype of children and romance as well?

Well, her retrograde period asked us to reevaluate and redefine all that we formerly thought had value in our lives — by paying close attention to the specific areas of creativity, romance, and children…

Every Venus retrograde period — which happens approximately once every two and a half years — coincides classically with several different themes.

Specifically, this planet’s rulership of Taurus concerns our relationship to pleasure (of the body and the five senses, i.e., what gives us pleasure.)

Her rulership of Libra is bound up with partnerships and whether they are fair, balanced, & peaceful. This includes partnerships of all kinds — significant other, family, friends, colleagues, bosses, etc., and whether or not we feel whole without such partners (i.e., what value these partners bring into the relationship!)

WHAT’S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT?

While retrograde in the sign of Leo, we were asked to reevaluate how we value our own sense of creativity, and then how we might best use our own inherent creative energies to experience true JOY in our lives…

This joy might come to us from our partnerships, the pleasures of one or all of our five senses, from our children, sports & recreation, and/or art, music, dance, film, photography, sculpture, writing, and anything else that moves us into a creative space…

In short, anything that allows us to revel in our abandon for the sheer pleasure of experiencing JOY…

Venus rules that which we consider both beautiful and pleasurable. This is what we then consider to be of value.

WHO NEEDS A HEART WHEN A HEART CAN BE BROKEN?

When Venus retrogrades, sometimes this period returns to us those whom we formerly valued in the guise of an old lover or friend looking us up and wanting to reestablish a connection.

When this happens, we are tasked with rethinking this person’s value in our life.

Perhaps it’s for the purpose of more consciously (now that we’ve gained distance from our emotions — be they positive or negative — about this person) reassessing this person’s true role in our life.

Did we experience this relationship because we had something to learn? If so, what was that? Did we learn it?

Maybe the partnership ended sadly or badly, and we now get the opportunity to reexamine our role in this break up.

Any loss in the financial area during this Venus retrograde in Leo might signify that a reassessment is in order of whether or not questing after material gain or possessions truly brings us joy.

If we consider money and possessions to be the most beautiful things in the world — regardless of the reasons why — then this is what we seek to attract into our lives.

If we value the love of another more, then we’ll quest after that love…

However, the truth is that placing value on external persons or objects (including money!) merely obscures one’s true soul purpose.

And what’s that purpose?

To ensure that your heart may never be broken!

How?

By choosing whether to love yourself first or not…

By choosing what brings you joy through your own strong connection to your internal, inherent, creative self, you ensure that you’re the most valuable and precious person in your life…

By bringing to yourself your own happiness, which you find in the easy, effortless, pleasurable act of creation, which, in turn, strengthens your bond of love to yourself…

Venus knows this is the only way to fully experience the gifts she has to offer. Her retrograde period — this time in Leo — was merely a reminder that it was time to pause and check back in with your higher self!

Now that Venus is moving forward again, take stock of what you’ve learned and go back to creating with reckless abandon (whatever that means to you!)

After all, this is the highest and best expression of what you were born to be and do…

Namaste…

Mercury Moves Into Libra August 27

Posted by Sheri Horn Hasan - August 28, 2015 - Astrology

Sweet Dreams Are Made Of These…

Mercury moves into Libra, the Venus-ruled sign of harmony, balance, & fairness, as the Moon gears up for her rendezvous with Neptune and Full Moon opposition to the Sun in Virgo on August 29.

Mercury’s stay in Libra will be a long one (due to its retrograde period from September 17 through October 9), lasting until the planet of communication, siblings, local commerce, transportation, etc., ingresses into Scorpio on November 2.

What to make of this? Well, in the short term, I’d say get out your paints, crayons, inks, musical instruments, pad and pen, dancing shoes, camera, computer, or whatever, and channel any confusion or romantic longings into a creative outlet!

Does it have to be “good?” Oh, screw that! Just DO it! After all, what have you got to lose?

You can choose to be burdened by confusion, foggy brain, intuition gone awry, or lured by something that glitters like gold but turns out to be lead, OR you can simply relax and have at it…

The Full Moon will be upon us tomorrow, highlighting the dichotomy between playing the victim/martyr game and being of service.

So why not start with Mercury’s ingress into Libra–the sign of relationships–and kick off this long period (which happens to coincide with tomorrow’s Pisces Full Moon) with some self-love and creative self-expression?

Pound the piano with reckless abandon, write a love sonnet to the world, treat yourself to singing in the shower, bake something yummy (creativity comes in many forms, you know!), or just kick back and watch a movie in your head…

Again, so you’re not on American Idol or The Voice, Dancing With The Stars, or a graduate of NYU’s film school or the American Ballet–WHO CARES?

Just let it all out and recognize how freeing it feels to simply express yourself!

If you’re a writer, stream of consciousness works best, as does poetry and/or poetic prose–after all, you’ll have the blessing of the Pisces Moon as it unites with romantic, spiritual Neptune on Saturday!

Write a song (simply a poem set to music doncha know?) even if no one will ever hear it…better yet, write a love song–to yourself!

Or simply take Louise Hay’s marvelous advice: Look yourself in the eye in the mirror and say “I love you!” (and mean it!) Then list all the things you LIKE about yourself, instead of the usual list (yeah, you know what I mean…)

Once again, what have you got to lose?

Stay away from chasing an ungrounded dream, release (with the help of the Pisces Full Moon) any unrequited romances, fantasies, projections onto another, etc., and see how good it feels when you keep the focus on yourself!

Mercury’s move into Libra kicks off an auspicious period for you to work on your creative endeavors, while the Sun in Virgo now helps you refine your ideas or works of art (remember, anything you create is a work of art, my friends!)

Don’t even BOTHER with criticism! Bypass the self-censure and let it rip…utilize the upcoming Full Moon to RELEASE all those nitpicky complaints you have about yourself and allow Mercury in Libra to float you down the river and into the land of creativity…

You may be surprised at what you discover, but you won’t find anything unless you let yourself take the trip…

Namaste…

Sun Shifts Into Virtuous Virgo August 23

Posted by Sheri Horn Hasan - August 24, 2015 - Astrology

Spotlight’s On Transforming Service Into Joy!

The Sun shifts gears from bold, brassy, bright Leo into the more demure and less demonstrative energy of Virgo.

While Leo grabs the microphone, belts out a few bars, and waits for the crowd to cheer, Virgo’s the one in the audience keeping track of which lyrics he’s missed and noting not only where he’s off key, but his specific sharps and flats. She then presents Leo with a list and tells him to work on it…

In short, Leo’s about performance while Virgo’s about the details that make up that performance. She sweats the small stuff.

And, aye, there’s the rub! How do we segue from summertime’s height of heat when the Leo Sun’s in its glory and reckless abandon runs amuck, to the quieter, more studious energy of virtuous Virgo?

Seems it’s no surprise that Virgo energy coincides (in the West at least) with back to school schedules.

But putting one’s nose to the grindstone does not have to be all work and no play. There is joy in service, as this quote by the 19th Century Bengali poet, writer, artist, musician, & philosopher Rabindranath Tagore so aptly points out:

“I slept and dreamt that life was joy.
I awoke and saw that life was service.
I acted and behold, service was joy.”

Creative Leo New Moon Energy Still High!

How can you make the best advantage out of the still waxing Leo New Moon energy as the Sun shifts into picky Virgo?

The first thing to remember is that Leo represents the archetype of creativity. While the Moon’s still waxing until August 29, now’s the time to continue to plant your creative seeds, water, and nurture them.

At the upcoming Pisces Full Moon (August 29), these seedlings may sprout into something tangible. They will have–fed at first by the uber-creative energies of the Leo Sun & Leo New Moon–and tended now by the more discerning Sun in Virgo–an excellent chance of blossoming into something real in the future.

What are you working on? What creative seed did you (or can you still) plant this month?

The trick is not to let the Virgo Sun’s energy become overly critical! While you’re enjoying your creative ideas, try not to shoot them down immediately.

Why? Because the combination of these energies right now create a perfect incubator out of which one may give birth to something special and something real…

Instead of annihilating an idea before it has the chance to grow, why not allow Virgo’s discerning energy to refine or review these creative ideas?

Eventually, under the Pisces Full Moon on August 29, the Virgo Sun’s energy will help you to weed out any unnecessary parts and to begin to prune your creative ideas into something that stands a much greater chance of surviving into the future.

I’m reminded of Rachel Platten’s Fight Song, in which she sings:

“Like a small boat
On the ocean
Sending big waves
Into motion
Like how a single word
Can make a heart open
I might only have one match
But I can make an explosion

And all those things I didn’t say
Wrecking balls inside my brain
I will scream them loud tonight
Can you hear my voice this time?

This is my fight song
Take back my life song
Prove I’m alright song
My power’s turned on
Starting right now I’ll be strong
I’ll play my fight song
And I don’t really care if nobody else believes
‘Cause I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me!”

Don’t let the Virgo Sun’s energy become the “wrecking balls” inside your brain!

If you can allow that match to set alight the creative spark within, you can better utilize Virgo’s energy once you’ve fought to believe in yourself and allow that spark to shoot up and become a flame…

Then you can make the best use of Virgo’s energies to ensure your flame is well tended and safely guarded.

In other words, you serve yourself best by allowing Virgo energy to be the keeper of the that creative Leo New Moon flame, not the destroyer of it…and through that flame you eventually enable yourself to serve others…

Namaste…

Jupiter Expands Into Virgo August 11

Posted by Sheri Horn Hasan - August 11, 2015 - Astrology

How To Expand AND Contract At The Same Time?

Virgo = Service

Jupiter = Expansion

In addition to being of service, the Virgo archetype includes health, daily routine, orderliness/cleanliness, and the capability to get down and dirty with the details.

Jupiter, known as the Great Benefic, can bring blessings, usually by making a bad situation better, or a good one great. However, Jupiter’s energy is definitely one that’s over the top.

When Jupiter enters the sign of Virgo, this expansive energy becomes imbued through Virgo’s more myopic lens.

Astrologically, Virgo is the sign opposite Pisces. Pisces is ruled by Neptune in modern astrology, and Jupiter in traditional astrology. The ancients considered Jupiter to be in detriment when in the sign of Virgo, mostly because it’s difficult to think or act expansively when you’re mired in the nitty-gritty details.

On one hand, Virgo’s opposition to Pisces signals the need to integrate service with a higher, more spiritual calling. On the other hand, it highlights our potential capability to bring together enlightenment and practicality in ways that benefit us on a conscious level.

Pisces is about chaos. Take the beginning of the world for example. Anyone remember Haldane soup?

That’s what they taught us in school represented the mixture of chaotic gases, etc., that existed prior to the formation of our universe. And from out of this chaotic mess–when conditions were miraculously and perfectly right (Virgo!)–came expansion (Jupiter) and then order (Virgo again!)

Virgo is about discernment, or making sense out of chaos. As such, this archetypal energy represents a sweating of the details, as opposed to ignoring them in favor of the bigger picture…

I think of this combination as the greatest potential of which integrated Pisces/Virgo energy is capable.

“It’s the little details that are vital. Little things make big things happen.” ~ John Wooden

Reconciling these two energies may prove difficult for some, easier for others.

When it comes to creativity, however, Virgo presents us with a difficult pitfall to avoid.

Jupiter’s influence may fill our soul with hope, spirituality, and greater consciousness. Positive feelings may abound where Jupiter transits. Ditto for where we chose for him to take up residence in our natal charts.

I sometimes liken this energy to that of a helium balloon. Without the ability to ground itself, however, this helium balloon may fly too high and disappear amongst the clouds, never to be seen or heard from again.

Such is the case with those whose grandiose ideas never come down low enough to allow their feet onto terra firma.

While Saturn in one’s chart can go a long way to ground Jupiterian energy, Virgo’s influence may be a positive one as well. But Virgo–as part of its role to distinguish the wheat from the chaff, to recognize nuances and details–may also instill in us the mantra “work hard for the sake of being perfect.”

That’s because–or so some believe, be it consciously or unconsciously–perfectionism brings one closer to acceptance into the divine realm.

In other words, the thought process goes: if orderliness/cleanliness and being perfect is next to Godliness, the Virgo archetype is placed in the position of equating perfection with goodness, and chaos with all that is bad…

How To Make Jupiter In Virgo Work For You?

If you’re a writer, creative, or intuitive, you’ll want to allow Jupiter’s energy to continue to fill you with a direct line to the divine source of your special and individual brand of inspiration and creativity.

However, Virgo’s uber-discernment can make one overly critical. As difficult as it is to be overly critical when one is consumed with only the big picture, imagine the problems of keeping Jupiter’s optimistic boat of hope afloat when all one expresses is criticism!

So, easy does it…

Mercury’s still in early Virgo, and the Sun will follow soon enough…but Jupiter in Virgo until September 2016 is the backdrop against which these more temporary Virgoan influences will prevail.

Don’t lose sight of your bigger picture, your creative dream!

Meanwhile, however, don’t let your perfectionism hold you back from dreaming at all…

Out of chaos comes clarity…when the fog lifts, all becomes clear…we all start with Haldane soup.

What we add to it and how we mix and stir it is what allows us to perform the magic that leads to exactly the right word or phrase, note or harmony, dance move, picture or video shot, etc., that perfectly expresses what it is we are trying to say!

Namaste…

Virgo Full Moon: Discernment Means Clarity Not Criticism!

Posted by Sheri Horn Hasan - March 4, 2015 - Astrology

Virgo Full Moon

Move From Chaotic Subconscious to Creative Manifest Reality!

The Virgo Full Moon tomorrow (March 5) highlights the schism between chaos and discernment. The most negative manifestation of Virgo energy is criticism…the most positive is discernment.

Discernment: The ability to see and understand people, things, and situations clearly and intelligently, according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary.

The difference? Well, anyone who’s heard (or said) “you’re gonna wear those shoes with that outfit?” knows what I’m talkin’ about…anyone who’s allowed herself to create with reckless abandon by dipping into the chaotic flowing river of creativity within but who stops herself from completing the creative process because of self-criticism–well I think she knows who I’m talking about, too…

Here’s the deal: This Full Moon in Virgo highlights the chaos within each of us inherent in the current energies of the Sun in Pisces. However, such chaos represents the prima materia–the primative formless base of all matter from which life springs–the foundation of our individual creativity.

Virgo energy helps us with perspective. We can see more clearly how we can fashion something out of that prima materia of our souls…and what we create is not meant to be criticized, it’s meant to be continually shaped and molded into something better.

When we do not censor, judge, or criticize, we free our creative instincts to lead us where they may. We may write, draw, paint, sing, compose, film photograph, dance–you name it–with the reckless abandon of a child unaware that judgment even exists.

This Virgo Full Moon is here to tell us “there is no judgment, no criticism–it’s all good because it comes from you!”

Rarely is our first draft our final publication-ready manuscript. All professional editors and publishers know this…

Here’s a thought: Why not replace that old, tired, energy-draining “I am not worthy ” shit with something new, something a lot more positive and uplifting than this psychologically downward spiraling notion?

Why judge your creations? Why criticize your own creativity?

When you think about it, this simply doesn’t make sense! Aren’t you here to participate, to share your light with the world?

I say silence all those naysaying voices in your head–dismiss them with a wave of one hand, while with the other you are already jotting down ideas because you’re in the zone of creating something new…something fabulous!

Only when we impose upon ourselves criticism (and fear others’s criticism) do we become inhibited. If we stop worrying about it, we can bring into fruition some amazing things!

Namaste…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAPRICORNS!

Posted by Sheri Horn Hasan - December 23, 2014 - Astrology
0
careerThe Sun sailed into the zodiacal sign of Capricornus (more commonly known as Capricorn) on December 21, and was greeted by the Moon as she entered that sign as well, resulting in a Capricorn New Moon. What an auspicious beginning for the Sun’s journey through the sign of your birth!

So listen up, all you authors, creatives, & intuitives!

This Capricorn New Moon, who’s dark of the Moon rays we are all under until Tuesday night, December 23, represents the best time to plant your seed, whatever that seed may be.

Planting that seed will enable it, with a lot of nurturing, to blossom ultimately into writing that book, and/or creating anything you want to bring into manifestation!

Why do I say that? Because Capricorn is an earth sign ruled by the planet Saturn, and among its energies lie the capability to build the foundation upon which you can rest your ultimate, well-crafted success.

No one knows better than those who carry within Capricorn/Saturn energy how easily and often success is within your grasp! However, in order to accomplish your goals, you must build that solid foundation, add the walls, then the roof, and–voila!–you have your house!

Easy as pie, right?

Well, not always…it depends on whether you express your archetypal Capricorn/Saturn energies negatively or positively!

Often those who carry Saturnine energy within bear the mark of people who’ve been forced to parent themselves at an early age, regardless of the reason why. Therefore, they’ve learned to rely only on themselves to make judgments about what is right, wrong, good, or bad.

Others may have experienced early environments where they were restricted in their capability to express, be it verbally/mentally, physically, emotionally, or spiritually. Over time, however, this restriction becomes internalized and the individual no longer identifies it with an outside authority figure, but rather believes it to be their natural, internal nature.

Since Mercury is also in the sign of Capricorn from December 18, 2014 until January 6, 2015, you may be doubly less than forgiving of your perceived imperfections…

Mercury’s energy represents our intellect and how we communicate what we desire most to express.      In the sign of Capricorn, we may tend to self-censor, and be judgmental, critical, or perfectionist.

Sweeping aside this often “learned” self-judgment can happen once we understand the child within, and that she deserves to be loved, honored and listened to, no matter what…

Identifying your internalized parental voice–whether it hails from a mother, father, grandparent, teacher, cleric, judge, or anyone else–is an important step in learning to express the authentic you!

Move From Authoritarian Parent to Inner Child

I always say there is no judgment in archetypes–they simply are the energies present in us all. It’s these archetypal energies which form the common bond between humans who span the globe, regardless of race, gender, religion, politics, yada, yada, yada…

Some of us carry Capricorn/Saturn energy to a greater degree than others. And Saturn/Capricorn is a hard energy because its seeks the accomplishment of success at all costs.

It’s the energy within that drives one to burn the midnight oil, to toil until the wee hours in order to get the job done–and done right! Capricorn/Saturn energy tolerates no slackers!

Terrific energy if one is building an empire–and many with strong Capricorn/Saturn energy have done just that!–but not so great when it comes to self-nurturing…

The key lies in Capricorn’s opposite zodiac polarity: Cancer! Cancer is the sign of the mother, sensitivity, compassion, roots, family, tradition, and security. What those born under the sign of Capricorn–or who possess a preponderance of heavy Saturnine energy–need most is nurturing.

We all possess an inner child, but the Capricorn/Saturn archetype is that of the adult, the parental figure, the authority! How difficult is it to nurture yourself when you’re always trying to be the grownup?

It’s well known that Capricorn/Saturnine people are old when they’re young, and grow younger as they age. This is because their concern with success when they’re young–and often about doing things the right way–overrides their need to self-nurture.

So listen up, Capricorns! Today is the first day of the rest of your life!

Under this Capricorn New Moon energy that kicks off the duration of the Sun’s journey through your Saturnine archetypal sign, why not treat yourself as you would a child?
Why not talk to your inner child–ask her what she wants, what she needs–reach out to her and let her speak!

Through her, you just might access your higher self, your authentic voice, and get in touch with the real you!

The real you is the one who can help integrate the part of you that understands the early bird gets the worm, and hard work results in success, with the part of you who needs unconditional love–now and always!

Pink’s song and video Pretty Pretty Please best illustrate this point:

Forgive me, those of you who may feel it’s a bit harsh. Capricorn energy, when it’s deeply internalized and stems from inner judgment, often is quite harsh, and that’s what this video points out…

…the song & video, however, aim to share a deeply moving message to those of us who are uber-hard on ourselves. And often at the expense of our sensitive inner child who needs–more than anything–unconditional love and approval…enjoy, and as my Capricorn mother always says: Do something nice for yourself–today and everyday!” (P.S. Please forgive the commercial–it’s worth the wait!)
