Leo New Moon Solar Eclipse

Posted by Sheri Horn Hasan - August 12, 2018 - Blog post

“How People Treat You Is Their Karma; How You React Is Yours.” ~ Wayne Dyer

Let’s consider what the heavens are trying to tell us at this Leo New Moon solar eclipse at 18-degree 42-minutes, which occurred at 2:58 a.m. PT & 5:58 a.m. ET on August 11.

We astrologers know that no heavenly occurrence happens in a vacuum, and that it’s the faster moving planets that trigger the energies of slower moving ones into action at precisely the right time for each of us.

Such events—be they internal or external–are triggered into action depending on our ast karma. Our reactions to these events help us to move forward and create new, more positive karma through our decision to allow the heavens to assist us to symbiotically co-create our own futures as we move forward in this lifetime.

It’s important to remember there’s nothing we can do to change past karma, whether we trace such karma to this lifetime, past ones, or both. However, we must not let that keep us stuck in any mental, emotional, physical, or spiritual loops that serve only to reinforce self-blame, self-criticism, or self-judgment.

Rather, just as they are finding in the scientific world of neurobiology, we may create new mental grooves that help free us from past ideas, beliefs, assumptions, rationales–or anything else that no longer serves our greatest good moving forward.

When we remain stuck, we usually find outselves with one of two choices:

1) deciding we are the helpless, hapless, victim who blames everyone else for our own misfortune without taking responsibility for our own role in the energetic dynamic of our life; 2) continuing to move forward with externally-imposed beliefs, judgments, and criticisms that come not from our inner higher self (or soul) but rather from people and events that convinced us that such beliefs, etc., are right for us.

This Leo New Moon solar eclipse calls us all to look deep within our hearts (Leo=HEART!) and find the courage to discover what makes us uniquely special–regardless of what we were told, taught, or forced to believe by others or through our circumstances growing up.

It asks us also to look beyond our fixed world and to imagine a future free from such negative internal dialogues–be they conscious or unconscious–and to fill our lives with greater reverence for our own true light. Doing so allows us greater perspective on the fact that’s neither all our fault or the fault of others, but rather that we bear responsibility for hiding ourselves away out of fear of being noticed and thus drawing to ourselves additional victimization OR criticism & judgment…

“The Past Is The Present, Isn’t It? The Future, Too.”
~ Eugene O’Neill

All new and full Moon lunations may act as triggers, though they also set the tone for the remaining approximate 14-day period of the waxing lunar cycle (in the case of a new Moon) or waning lunar cycle (in the case of a full Moon.)

To best understand the energies of this August 11 Leo New Moon solar eclipse, let’s look back before we try to peer ahead…

Here’s what we already know:

  • The July 12 Cancer New Moon solar eclipse called us to recognize our deepest emotional vulnerabilities, & to plant seeds of self-compassion that allow us to come out of emotional hibernation
  • The July 27 Aquarius Full Moon lunar eclipse reminded us that we’re part of a greater whole—yes–but one that needs our individual, unique, creative, solar talents to help humankind survive & thrive

We also know that, according to astrologer Bernadette Brady in her bookPredictive Astrology, The Eagle & the Lark, the theme of both these eclipses was “action concerning relationships.” Brady points out that these eclipses may have brought about unfortunate news concerning separations or endings of friendships or relationships…however, due to quick action the final outcome may well be positive.

July 12’s Cancer New Moon solar eclipse asked to plant seeds that will grow into the healthy, strong desire to reveal to the world our emotional vulnerabilities without shame, blame, self-criticism or judgment.

Here are some questions we might ask ourselves since this eclipse:

  1. Where have I been forced to acknowledge my most vulnerable self?
  2. How did I deal with this and can I now be honest with both myself and others about what really hurts me most?’
  3. Can I feel the self-compassion necessary to recognize I am only human and that my capacity to feel hurt is something I share with every human being, regardless of the circumstances that created the hurt?

“Turn Your Face To The Sun And The Shadows
Fall Behind You.” ~ Maori Proverb

The July 27 Aquarius Full Moon lunar eclipse asked us to apply our growing sense of self compassion and ability to withstand hurts, slights, and emotional pain without resorting to negative past karma that drives us underground or back into hiding in our emotionally protective shell.

At a full Moon, the Sun’s light is reflected back to it.This serves as a reminder of both the positive and negative archetypal range of energies inherent in any given zodiacal Sun sign. At the same time, it reminds us that no archetypal energy exists in a vacuum because there’s always an archetypal polar opposite, in this case Aquarius.

The July 27 Aquarius Full Moon lunar eclipse highlighted back to the Leo Sun that we must jettison whatever it is about the Leo archetype that no longer serves our highest and best interest. At the same time, it reminded us that if we let go of any negative Leo traits (arrogance, excessive pride, selfishness, etc.), we may find it easier to integrate our own unique creative specialness into the collective.

Since this eclipse was about relationships as well, we might now ask ourselves these questions:

  • Where do I still need to let go of friends, groups, associations, whose ideological beliefs I don’t truly share?
  • How I can both honor AND integrate my own creative unique talents & abilities into my community, tribe, family, groups, etc., without losing a strong sense of myself?
  • What will it take to allow me to see myself more clearly and objectively, without feeling either too small or too large a part of this world?

In short, the Aquarius Full Moon lunar eclipse reminded the Leo Sun to individuate. Yet how can we individuate without knowing  and fully appreciating who we truly are, and by possessing true Cancerian self-compassion for that true soul within us?

Releasing that which keeps us tied to society, the collective, personal groups, tribes, associations, and/or friends who don’t allow us to express our solar gifts–or worse yet, denigrate or ignore such talents—will not serve us as we create more positive future karma…

By the same token, we’re not necessarily to demand being treated like a star, but rather accept our place as a cog in the wheel of a society that needs our talents and gifts to help promote the betterment of humankind.

“It’s During Our Darkest Moments That We Must Focus
To See The Light.” ~Aristotle

The third eclipse in this series, the August 11 Leo New Moon solar eclipse, returns once again to the seed planting theme. Now that we’ve received the message that we must develop true self-compassion to release our fears around being part of any group in a meaningful way, we can work on developing & expressing our unique creative identity.

Bernadette Brady reveals that this eclipse may well result in the collapse of “plans or life-styles,” and that this may result in confusion. However, “the long-term effects are those of rebuilding and transformation,” which can result in long-lasting consequences. “This eclipse family changes a person’s direction through the sudden collapse of an existing structure,” Brady concludes

As the Sun and the Moon come together in the Sun’s dignified sign of Leo, we’re reminded it’s always darkest before the dawn. It takes faith to hang on to the hope that we’ll be able to glimpse that miraculous first sliver of light as the Moon begins to pull ahead of the Sun.

Meanwhile, Uranus in Taurus, newly retrograde as of August 7, squares the transiting Nodes, and is squared by retrograde Mars in Uranus-ruled Aquarius at this eclipse, a strong signal that change is in the air, like it or not…

Uranus remains in retrograde motion until January 6, 2019 & brings to a total 7 planets appearing to move backward through the heavens right now. Together with Mercury, Mars, Saturn, Neptune, Pluto, & Chiron, Uranus asks us to withdraw inward and do a bit of soul searching.

With so many planets retrograde, we know it’s not a time for action, but rather one to plan, strategize, think, analyze, and generally plot our future instead of simply stumbling forward aimlessly. As noted, Mars’ retrograde through Aquarius–the sign ruled by Uranus—since June 26 placed emphasis on the message not to fly off the handle right now, but rather to take everything as slowly as possible to allow mental revelations to happen.

The symbiosis between these two planets and their movements tells us we’ve been reviewing the ideological basis upon which we formulate both our values and our actions.

Mars moves back into the sign of Capricorn on August 12, where the warrior god should be far less impetuous, anxious, or accident prone, & more capable of planning for future security. However, we must remember that he’s still square Uranus in the sky right now, which may make us yearn for some type of action, and in the absence of our ability to act, cause us irritation and annoyance.

I Forgot I Had A Choice…

The Leo Sun, Moon, & Mercury (now retrograde) waxed into frictional quincunxes with evolutionary Pluto retrograde in Capricorn at this Leo New Moon solar eclipse, confirming that this lunation is indeed a part of our evolutionary process.

To me this energy feels a bit like the Nine of Wands in the tarot, which depictsthat we may feel depleted, exhausted, depressed, discouraged, or weary at this stage of our evolutionary journey. However, if we can muster jut one more ounce of energy, simply make one final push forward, we can meet successfully whatever challenges life has thrown at us thus far.

Though irritated, annoyed, or aggravated, we must remember that the only alternative to evolution is extinction.

Meanwhile, this lunation also squares a Juno/Jupiter opposition, confirming again the theme of a possible break in relationships. Juno=Hera, the wife of Jupiter=Zeus in Roman & Greek mythologies respectively, and they enter the limelight now since both square the transiting Nodes we well…

Jupiter trines Neptune, however, signaling that it’s possible altruism can win the day, especially if we focus our efforts on sharing those gifts of ours with those to whom we are connected by virtue of being human.

Venus in Libra, her own sign, squared Saturn in Capricorn at this lunation & eclipse, highlighting that obligatory issues in our partnerships may factor heavily at this time.

Where do we do what we what we think we must in our relationships vs. doing what we truly desire? The answer to this question is bound to allow us to proceed further along our evolutionary journey by allowing us to express our true desires vis-à-vis relationships, rather than simply follow an arbitrarily decided upon set of “rules.”

When Mercury stations direct August 18, Mars does the same August 27, and Saturn moves forward again on September 6, we should begin to see the momentum pick up in terms of our outward actions and expression…at least until Venus stations retrograde in Scorpio October 5…

The good news? Venus will join only Uranus, Neptune, & Chiron retrograde then, though Juno will join the backward parade October 12 as well, so be sure to stay tuned!

Here’s Katy Perry’s ROAR, which seems an appropriate example of how to move away from hiding one’s light under a bushel, whether that opportunity is granted us
by choiceor by circumstance…

ROAR

Katy Perry

“I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath
Scared to rock the boat and make a mess
So I sat quietly
Agreed politely

I guess that I forgot I had a choice
I let you push me past the breaking point
I stood for nothing
So I fell for everything

You held me down, but I got up
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, you hear that sound
Like thunder gonna shake the ground

You held me down, but I got up
Get ready ’cause I’ve had enough
I see it all, I see it now

I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter,
dancing through the fire
Cause I am a champion and
You’re gonna hear me ROAR

Louder, louder than a lion
Cause I am a champion and
You’re gonna hear me ROAR
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You’re gonna hear me roar

Now I’m floating like a butterfly
Stinging like a bee I earned my stripes
I went from zero, to my own hero

You held me down, but I got up
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, you hear that sound
Like thunder gonna shake the ground

You held me down, but I got up
Get ready ’cause I’ve had enough
I see it all, I see it now

I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter,
dancing through the fire
Cause I am a champion and
You’re gonna hear me ROAR

Louder, louder than a lion
Cause I am a champion and
You’re gonna hear me ROAR
Oh oh oh oh oh oh

You’re gonna hear me roar
Roar-or, roar-or, roar-or…”

Aries New Moon, Mercury Direct, Chiron Into Aries!

Posted by Sheri Horn Hasan - April 19, 2018 - Blog post

Shoot For (Not At) The Moon

This Aries New Moon may have a shock or two in store for us–of the “change or be changed!” kind–when the two luminaries in this proactive fire sign collide with Uranus, the symbol of unexpected events, also in Aries.

There’s an awful lot of cardinal energy at this Aries New Moon, what with not

only the Moon, Sun, Uranus, & Mercury in Aries, but Saturn, Mars, & Pluto in Capricorn, too.

Cardinal energy is initiative and Aries energy impatient.

The Moon will meet the Sun at 27 degrees & 2 minutes of Aries @6:57 pm PT

& 9:57 ET on April 15 & go on to conjoin with Uranus about four hours later. To say this energy holds the potential to be explosive would be an understatement!

This Aries New Moon brings the two luminaries & Uranus together into the energy force field of the proactive & action-oriented warrior, athlete, or otherwise motivated individual. It’s meet up with Uranus indicates we may be impatient because on some level—conscious or unconscious–we know that we are ripe for some kind of change.

At March 31’s Libra Full Moon I suggested we all think about the following:

How can we find greater balance between going it alone & getting our own needs met?

Whatever answers you came up with at the time are part of what will hit home for you at this Aries New Moon. Whatever decisions you procrastinated making–or perhaps made too hastily–may come back to you now through some sort of change, particularly in the realm of partnerships.

Whenever Uranus is involved, we astrologers also know that the longer we’ve spent resisting change, the more sudden and surprising that change is likely to be. Some the questions you might want to ask yourself now include:

  •  Where have I been feeling frustrated, depressed, or dissatisfied with my life?
  • How has this made me feel: angry, frightened, impatient, sad, or in some other way unhappy?
  •  How do I process fear around the thought of change, and actual changitself? Do I resist it, welcome it, or something in between?

    Over The Moon…

So, remember I mentioned that Saturn, Mars, & Pluto are in Capricorn at this Aries New Moon? Well, not only that, but during the hours leading up to the Aries New Moon the Moon will square Saturn, then Mars, and then Pluto.

These past few days may have seemed up and down for some of us, and turbulence the name of the game. For those who pay attention to the national & international scene, U.S. President Trump last week said he wanted to pull U.S. troops out of Syria soon.

He then announced on Wednesday that he’d rain down missiles on Syria in retaliation for the gassing of its own citizens earlier this week. On Thursday he said he might OR he might not. Friday evening he launched the threatened missile strike, joined by French & British allies.

What’s THIS got to do with your life?

As I’ve noted before, it’s important for those of us attempting to grow in consciousness not to separate the outer world from the inner, but rather to integrate these two energies so that our inner self is in greater attunement with the world around us. If we create our own reality, then we must first define what that “reality” is, right?

So, we can use outer events—even those that may not happen TO us directly, yet still affect us in one way or another—to better understand how the collective’s energy has manifested externally.

In this case, as we’re approaching the exact joining of the Aries Sun to the planet Uranus on April 18–and it’s as this energy grows in strength that we’ll be experiencing the Aries New Moon on the 15th–we can tell what’s going on internally by recognizing how these energies manifest externally.

We can see how the past week or so has been filled with ups and downs, twists & turns, one step forward one step back type energy. And those who are metaphysically-minded also know that “as above, so below, as within so without, as the universe, so the soul…”

This Aries new Moon is a force to be reckoned with because it’s as if once the train has started down the track, it’s hard to stop it. Its forward motion is exacerbated by its pending meet up with Uranus because the combination of Mars (ruler of this Aries New Moon) & Uranus is like a speeding train (or missile) with no brake…

Evolution Vs. Revolution

Pluto in Capricorn has been about the long-term evolutionary trajectory of changing the way we do “business as usual.” Saturn in this sign of ambition & success tells us “slow & steady wins the race,” while Mars in Capricorn is like the general leading the army with deliberation, & planned & well thought out strategies designed to “win.”

While Mars continues to wax into an exact meet up with Pluto in Capricorn onApril 26, it pays to bear in mind that–although Capricorn energy is cautious,

slow, & steady—Mars/Pluto energy is extremely powerful, and not to be underestimated in its potential for explosiveness…   So, while this Aries New Moon challenges us to find new and innovative ways to allow change to happen–but through a measure of controlled action—it pays for us to be aware that Mars will increasingly push his call for action onto evolutionary-minded Pluto!

So, the message becomes both dichotomousand clear: change is coming, but how we decide to handle that change is up to each of us individually. If the spark that ignites change propels an unstoppable juggernaut into action, we might want to be sure it’s heading in the right evolutionary direction.

Therefore, how we all handle any resistance to change through clinging to old ways: mindsets, beliefs, loyalties, security (including to the material world) is key at this Aries New Moon.

If we’re blindsided now, all the more reason to let go; but only to the point where you can hang on loosely! Steering will become important as you go, so keep this mind: sudden actions, be they fortuitous or grievous, can still be handled, and handled well. The key is not to panic or to lose one’s head altogether…

Material Re-E-Value-Ation

Also at this Aries New Moon, Venus in Taurus opposes Jupiter retrograde in Scorpio. This tells us that our values are up for E-VALUATION, and as we pursue our evolutionary course, hopefully consciously, we may also contemplate where or how our values may be out of sync with our true soul’s needs.

   Huh?

This means we can all ask ourselves the question now: Is what we think wewant really what our soul truly needs?

This is always the case with frictional Venus/Jupiter aspects. Jupiter expands, Venus wants what makes her feel good. Both are well-advised to stop and ask whether it’s quantity that will bring true happiness, or quality…

Venus trines Pluto now, too, and from Taurus to Capricorn can be a grounding influence. Just as the slowly building Capricorn Mars/Pluto energy will eventually counterbalance the quickness of Uranus at this Aries Full Moon & beyond, so may this trine temper it as well.

Remember, however, that Mars/Pluto is about evolutionary change while the more fleeting Venus/Jupiter energy is about our true values. And Venus, of course, is also about relationships…

As the Aries New Moon takes up where the March 31 Libra Full Moon left off, it also pays for us to ask whether we find more success in going it alone or together. And, either way, what is our evolutionary end-goal?

Mercury Direct–Wiser Through The Ages!

Mercury stations direct early morning April 15, about 16 hours before the Aries New Moon exacts, and this coming week communication should slowly begin to return to normal.

Wait, watch, & listen for it—your phone will ring, your email will ping, your texts will chime, and letters appear in your mailbox…it’s almost like all will return to normal.

As you begin to wind your way back into the flow of all things communicative, remember this: you’ve just spent 21 days during which your left brain has been suspended, and your right brain reigned supreme.

This is primarily why so many astrologers caution against signing contracts, buying high ticket items, etc.—for fear that our normally logical, empirically-oriented brains will miss the details, the small print, the bottom line.

And often this is true, but let’s remember also that this has been a period during which our psyches have brought up from our subconscious into consciousness important messages from our soul’s higher self. Likewise, objectively learned information was transferred down into the unconscious to become embedded there as true wisdom.

And it’s this wisdom that will be carried with your soul into future lifetimes, just as the wisdom from prior lifetimes was embedded in your psyche to make you as wise as you are today! (Don’t snicker—regardless of any mistakes you feel you’ve made since birth in this incarnation, your soul has to have learned a thing or two from past life karma!)

Saturn Retrogrades & Chiron Into Aries April 17

This coming week will see Saturn station retrograde, Chiron move into Aries– both on April 17–and on April the Sun moves into harmonizing Taurus.

The keyword for Taurus archetypal energy is “serenity,” and hopefully this is what we we’ll all strive for during the next month.

Saturn’s retrograde period—which lasts until September 6—is a one during which if anyone or anything leaves our life it means they were not instrumental to our future growth…in consciousness…

Any departure now—of a person, a job, a material possession—means you have no use for them or it in the future, and the astrological advice is to let it go…often this is one of the hardest lesson to learn…

Yes, it’s true that Saturn can bring tears, sadness, isolation, lonliness, &depression, but please, please, pleaseremember that his mission is ultimately a positive one: to help us all understand that we can make it on our own!

This is to say we don’t need anyone or anything—contrary to what our feelings may tell us—to survive. And, as time passes, not only does a departure create space for a new arrival, but being able to stand on our own means we get to choose who and what we want in our lives rather than simply having to accept what we get!

How glorious to know that if the world were to disappear right in front of our very eyes, we’ve got what it takes to survive because we are our own best friend, nurturer, and authority!

Saturn always says “the buck stops here,” and his purpose is to mature us ot the point where we can sustain any setbacks and not only survive, but thrive, because we always know we have ourselves to depend on and trust.

   And that’s a good thing…

Chiron’s another story, as he moves from the watery Piscean domain he’s inhabited for the past eight years into fiery independent proactive Aries energy on April 17 until June 19, 2026. (He will retrograde back into Pisces twice during this period, but more on that anon…)

Chiron’s move into Aries tells us all the time is ripe to begin (or continue) to heal wounds around any inability to express our personal will, be it on a mental, physical, emotional, or spiritual level.

So plant new seeds now at this Aries New Moon that state your intentions: if you’ve been too dependent on others for your own happiness, use this time to nurture & grow self-confidence & self-love.

If you’ve been too independent, & in being this way denied your own need for nurturing, take this Aries New Moon opportunity to institute into your life some self-care and perhaps explore where you might unburden yourself through the help of another or others.

Let’s face it, most of us did not come here to be alone. But neither did most of us come here to remain co-dependent our whole lives. Use the enegies of this potentially explosive change-oriented Aries New Moon to recognize in what area of life change is necessary, roll with it, but then seize the tiller & navigate your way toward your desired evolutionary future!

Here’s a song that I think perfectly fits this Aries New Moon energy:
Bob Dylan’s revolutionary ode, covered by Tracy Chapman

The Times They Are A’Changin’

Tracy Chapman

“Come gather ’round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown

And accept it that soon
You’ll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you
Is worth savin’
Then you better start swimmin’
Or you’ll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin’

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won’t come again

And don’t speak too soon
For the wheel’s still in spin
And there’s no tellin’ who
That it’s namin’
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin’

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don’t stand in the doorway
Don’t block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be who has stalled

The battle outside ragin’
Will soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin’

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don’t criticize
What you can’t understand

Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is rapidly agin’
Please get out of the new one
If you can’t lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin’

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast

As the present now
Will later be past
The order is rapidly fadin’
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin’…”
~ Bob Dylan

Taurus New Moon May 6 — Rock Steady!

Posted by Sheri Horn Hasan - May 6, 2016 - Astrology

This Taurus New Moon energy sets the tone this month…

…for us to plant seeds of peace and calm in order to bring an unfluster-able serenity into our lives.

Think Ferdinand the bull who, in the children’s story, refused to engage in the bullfight ring—even the swinging of the red cape and taunting cries of “Toro! Toro! Toro!” left him unwilling to fight.

Ultimately they retired him to a patch of land where he rested peacefully under a shady tree, calmly munching some grass and happily watching the world go by…

At this Taurus New Moon, we are called to entertain thoughts about whether it’s more about action for action’s sake, and machismo and glory, or the serenity of knowing who we are and what we value most.

The interesting thing about Taurus energy is that it’s monumentally strong. When the bull in us puts her shoulder to the wheel, she can move just about anything. However, without motivation, it’s often tough for those who carry this archetypal energy–and who value pleasure in life most–to get up and get moving…

The danger around Taurus energy is that we may stubbornly remain peacefully otherwise occupied and resist the call to move or change. But this Taurus New Moon offers us the same kind of fixity we just might need in order to stabilize our lives…

Plant Seeds With 5 Retrograde Planets?

Let’s face it, with so much celestial energy retrograde right now it seems unlikely we can do much: Mercury calls us to review, rethink, revise, as our left brain logical function is subdued at least until May 22 and communication snafus abound. Meanwhile Mars—retrograde until June 29–until asks us to take a more reactive than proactive stance right now.

Saturn, too, says “take it slow” (until he stations direct on August 13) in order to release anything in your life that’s no longer instrumental to your future growth.

And Pluto’s base note resounds with a “let go of anything in your life that doesn’t allow you to transform at the deepest core level of your soul.” (Pluto, the slowest moving of all the planets, won’t station direct again until September 26.)

Jupiter, due to station direct on May 9, has been busy backstroking through the heavens since January 8, helping us to discover whether what we think we want is what our soul truly needs…

That said, it’s fairly easy to see how feeling like planting a seed at this Taurus New Moon to eventually birth something new may not be seriously in the cards right now.

Make Space For Future Growth

Does this mean you can’t forge ahead during this time? Does life stop because of all this retrograde planetary energy?

No! Life is always about growth and growth is always about change!

Think of it this way: this Taurus New Moon asks us all to dig down deep—just as you would with your trowel in the garden in order to plant those annually recurring perennials—and to unearth from below your deepest and truest values…

At the same time, you may implant into the earth these newer, or readjusted, values, once you have—with all of this planetary retrograde energy now—used your introspective faculties to discern what it is you want to grow in your garden.

What this Taurus New Moon means is that you can move ahead more easily by checking in with where your real values lie, and reviewing (and possibly jettisoning) any beliefs about current values that no longer fit who you are now or who you want to be in the future!

For Taurus energy, which archetypally resists change and loves to repose peacefully in her garden of choice, this Taurus New Moon provides us with the opportunity NOT to put our shoulder to the wheel. Rather, we may use this time to sit back and physically relax, but to do our harder, more lasting, psychological work.

Visualize Your Blooming Garden

Providing this Taurus New Moon with a helping hand is the Taurus Sun & Moon’s tie into a grand earth trine, which to me is a sign of “manifestation.”

The Taurus New Moon’s trine to both Jupiter and the North Node in Virgo, and to Pluto in Capricorn, tells us it may not be as difficult as we think to allow this abundance of current retrograde energy to help us along…

We need not be running hither and yon to get this done, but rather allow ourselves to visualize, or dream, our beautiful gardens into full bloom. Since we manifest externally our internal energies as we go through life, this is an excellent way of utilizing all of the retrograde activity in the sky right now.

Once we’ve mentally, emotionally, and spiritually excavated from our metaphorical gardens that which we no longer find of value, and then plant our new values firmly in the ground, we’ll be set for more direct action in the future!

Of course, those who carry the Taurean archetype strongly in their energetic make up may begin the manifestation of their gardens now through literal planting!

Whether it means literally planting your garden, decluttering your living space, or reviewing your financial situation, your career, your relationships, your lifestyle, etc., you will make more progress now by concentrating on how to bring into more optimal alignment your inner energies with your outer ones…

Think of it as a way to illustrate to yourself your own internal processes and watching them manifest on the physical empirical plane!

(By the way, if clutter is your current issue or your long term nagging problem, I highly recommend “The Life-Changing Magic Of Tidying Up,” which I just started reading last night!)

While a trine is usually indicative of an “easy” energy, sometimes it can be too easy and we may become lazy. Since this is a particular problem for us Taurean types, I’d recommend tending toward making your surroundings more beautiful now.

This Taurus New Moon is making a sextile to the transiting South Node as well, denoting that we have the opportunity to let go of anything that no longer serves our soul’s quest for true growth and consciousness. Again, this doesn’t have to mean action, as inner reflection is the name of the game right now…

 Is All Of This Easy?

Hell no! But what’s Taurus energy best at? Like I said, putting her shoulder to the wheel, the rock, the obstacle, and pushing it with strong and firm persistence in order to move it where you want it ultimately to go…

The Taurus New Moon also makes a quincunx to Saturn, which suggests this is not going to be without its minor annoyances. If you pay attention, however, you may find that most of these annoyances revolve around your belief system.

Remember The Law of Circulation!

Taurus the bull doesn’t need to carry on her back all of the “stuff” she’s accumulated through her lifetime. Remember the law of circulation: when you remove from your life the “stuff” that no longer has value to you personally, you make room for new people, relationships, jobs, and LOVE to come into your life!

As always, love is an inside job—it begins at home, in your body, your immediate environment, and your outer trappings. Now is the time, under the auspices of the Taurus New Moon, to begin to bring into alignment your inner and your outer worlds…

Issues like “I hate that picture on the wall but I can’t throw it away, my mother gave it to me!” or “this belonged to my father and I’d be disrespecting his memory if I get rid of it!” may loom large right now…

However, if you desire your patch of land (either literal or metaphorical!) to eventually look like that beautiful garden you envision in your mind, you may need to think again about how to best manifest what it is you truly value.

Picture it now: roses of the most gorgeous colors, perennial tulips you know you’ll treasure the sight of for years to come, marigolds, hydrangeas, maple trees, cherry blossoms (assuming you have the land!), or any other personal favorite flowers, tree, or plants, all blooming in full glorious color!

Now that’s a Taurus New Moon meditation worth its weight in gold, lol…

Aquarius New Moon February 8

Posted by Sheri Horn Hasan - February 8, 2016 - Astrology

In the dark of this Aquarius New Moon, we are called to plant the seeds of our  revelations. The ones that maybe you’ve not dared to tell people or share with others, the ones that–if given voice, structure, and a platform–might actually be brilliant!

And if they’re not for everyone, so be it.

When a revelation arrives fully blown in our minds, it’s as if a light bulb has snapped on, illuminating instantly what before was completely hidden—or in the dark.

Possibility is born through revelation. And revelation hits when it hits–which is to say, often unexpectedly.

Our job is simply to recognize it when it does hit.

Once I Was Blind But Now I See

Seeds of advancement, seeds of change…seeds of allowing the ideas that arrive “a priori” into the mind to be tested and found possible.

At this Aquarius New Moon we’re going to be asked to test our aha! moments out in real life. Up until that aha! eureka! moment we weren’t 100% sure that our hypothesis or postulate was provable.

When we allow ourselves to think outside the box, to not get bogged down by our fears, our prejudices, our insecurities, think what life would be like!

What if we all had faith in our beliefs to the point where we are unafraid to express our differences?

If we poo-poo, nay say, or doubt it away, how can we ever know if these revelations can stand the test of time when put to the test?

So in the dark of this Aquarius New Moon, plant the seeds of these revelations.

Aquarian energy is about the tribe, the group, and–by extension– the community. It’s also about our friends, and our hopes, dreams, & wishes.

How can we have hopes, dreams, and wishes if they simply lie dormant, never to be struck by the spark of lightning or the flicker of a match? As that’s what’s needed to bring these ideas, hopes, dreams to life–into their full blown glory, into a raging fire.

“High” Mars Energy Vs. “Low” Mars Energy

Mars squaring this Aquarius New Moon (when the Sun and the Moon meet up in the sky and set the stage for the tone of the next two weeks until the Full Moon occurs and she once again begins to wane in preparation for the next New Moon) provides its energy with extra oomph!

Our hearts and minds are now in alignment because the two luminaries are together at this precise moment of the Aquarius New Moon in the sky. This helps us give birth to the impetus we have behind our ideas, projects, philosophies, etc.

So we must push past the frustration in which Mars square this Aquarius New Moon may result, without succumbing to it. Rather let’s use this energy and put the wind behind our sails in order to benefit most from it…

We must try to use the unifying strength of being on the same continuum–both mentally & emotionally, ego & soul, mind & heart–so that we may lift the brightness of our ideas (illuminated under that revelatory flash of lightning!) into something real, manifest, concrete, and capable of lasting.

Using Mars energy in a way that accentuates and defines the “high” side of Mars–as motivation, ambition, assertion–rather than the “low” side of Mars—aggression, uber-sexuality, and violence–can only work in our favor now…

Illumination

So, hold your torches high. If they are for the purpose of lighting your way, and the way of others–and not to harm, hurt, cheat, or in any other way use this martial energy negatively–they may be used to galvanize—to forge in steel, so to speak—these reflationary & revolutionary ideas in order to manifest them.

Write that article, work on that book manuscript, create that software, paint that painting, sing that song, dance that dance, enjoy, and most of all, do it in your own unique way…because individual expression is part of the Aquarian archetype as long as the motive is high-minded and in the best interests of the community or the world or humankind at large..

So, what is our idea and how do we make it manifest?

Remember that Aquarius is not only ruled by the planet Uranus in modern astrology, but traditionally by the planet Saturn, which represents structure within the group.

When we utilize both sides of the archetypal meaning of the sign of Aquarius we have the capability to not only recognize these ideas that arrive whole  into our brains, but we find a way to concretize them by bringing them down to earth and actually testing them within the group.

Warning: It is of course possible for those of a distinct Aquarian nature to go a little too far.

Aquarius is an air sign—hence rational, thoughtful, objective–capable on the negative side of the spectrum of becoming too fixed in its ideas.

So when one who carries an abundance of Aquarius energy believes she has truth with a capital “T” I wholeheartedly recommend that she take a step back, particularly on the eve of this Aquarius New Moon, and redefine for herself the who, what, where, how, and when’s of her conclusions.

Aquarius is also a fixed sign, so expressing your ideas with conviction is all well and good. Just make sure you put your hypothesis to the test and that it indeed is capable of surviving this test not only to benefit YOU but to make life better for us all…

Sagittarius New Moon December 11

Posted by Sheri Horn Hasan - December 12, 2015 - Astrology

The Sagittarius New Moon on December 11 is ruled by the planet Jupiter, known in traditional astrology as the great benefic, or one who brings blessings and good fortune with him where ever he goes.

Jupiter to the Romans, Zeus to the Greeks, is the king of the gods. There is none mightier. He ruled over Mt. Olympus and the other gods and goddesses there–though the god Pluto/Hades had domain over the underworld, & Neptune/Poseidon ruled the seas.

Conscious Growth & Expansion of Faith

The planet Jupiter possesses a connotation around royalty, while Sagittarius energy represents the adventurer, the seeker, the traveler, the philosopher, and one who’s always up for the ride–be it literal travel (as in where’s the party? Let’s go!) or travel of the mind. The latter often manifests through concerns about politics, law, international relations, philosophy, & religion.

The Jupiter/Sag association includes religion not because this energy represents any one particular set of religious beliefs or tenets, but rather because religion has helped explain the world around us from the time of the ancients. In turn, this helped them–and now many of us–to develop philosphies that promote our sense of faith in the world.

In the end, the all-inclusive energy of Jupiter & Sagittarius is synonymous with the concept of expansion. Jupiter brings this expansion to us anywhere he travels…in this regard he has a great connection to faith.

Where Jupiter’s influence appears in your chart shows where you possess the greatest capability to expand your horizons through knowledge gleaned via opening yourself up to outside influences and new ideas.

Depending on where Jupiter is in your natal chart, what he aspects, what house he rules, & where he’s transiting currently in the sky vis-à-vis your natal birth chart, his true mission is to help you–by sending you (through your curiousity & desire to explore) out into the wider world in order to learn more about it & thus expand your consciousness…

Til I Reach My Highest Ground…

Expansion in consciousness may sound like a lofty term, especially to those who think they’ve got it all figured out. But Jupiter asks us to investigate whether what we believe with our mind is really what is true for our soul. This Sagittarius New Moon asks us what is it that we believe & in which we have true faith? And are our beliefs a product of having listened to our soul’s true higher self, our inner voice, or is it based on what other people have told us, taught us, or forced us to believe in the past?

The difference between the two cannot be underestimated.

In other words, does what you believe truly mirror what’s in your soul? Or do you need to get in greater touch with your soul’s true nature & higher purpose through expansion of your thoughts & beliefs via letting in new information that introduces new perspectives?

Part of Jupiter’s mission is also to impart to us the knowledge that we are a member of the greater whole, the collective, as well as an individual within this collective.

When our philosophies of life are taken from indoctrinated teachings, we can develop certain belief systems. However, without discerning whether these beliefs systems are part of our soul’s true nature or simply that of those around us–we can fall into the trap of having our growth in consciousness stifled.

So when Jupiter is not being expansive, he decides on a particular philosophy or ideology in which he believes and then he stops. This lack of growth, or rigidity, or structure around one’s belief system of the kind that does not allow in new information or the expansion of one’s own horizons is anathema to Jupiter’s true purpose in our lives.

This energy, particularly relevant in today’s world (see Saturn In Sagittarius Square Neptune In Pisces /) may hinder rather than help us..

Plant Your Seed & Grow Your Soul’s Purpose

This Sagittarius New Moon on Dec 11 calls us to plant the seed of expansion through allowing our level of consciousness to grow by opening up to outside information, and to others’ viewpoints & perspectives.

This widening out of our narrow belief system–or one we deem to represent absolute truth–moves us in a direction consistent with Jupiter/Sagittarius energy: The expansion of knowledge through higher learning which in turn helps us form our philosophies about life.

However, it’s all about not being rigidly married to these philosophies, but rather about allowing ourselves to grow in consciousness through continual learning of new information so that we may get in better touch with our soul’s true needs.

Such expansion in consciousness then feeds the soul’s true purpose in a way that gives it individual meaning. Jupiter energy helps bring about this expansion of knowledge which then becomes incorporated into the psyche as wisdom…

The connection between opening up oneself to new ideas & new philosophies of life–be they religious or otherwise–is a step toward getting in touch with one’s own psyche & higher self.

Then we can bypass the more rigid philosophies, morals, mores, religious codes, etc., of those outside of ourselves and truly begin to feed our own soul internally. And as we do so, we grow in consciousness which, in turn, allows us to become wiser…

Does this mean you can’t place your faith in others? Absolutely not! But when another’s belief system opposes your own–when it hampers or stunts your ability to grow or to hear your own inner voice & higher self–then it does not help you expand your consciousness & grow your own faith in yourself…

When we are able to get in touch with our higher self and hear our own original authentic voice, we can then begin to develop faith in ourselves…

Libra New Moon October 12

Posted by Sheri Horn Hasan - October 14, 2015 - Astrology

How Intimate Can You Go?

The Libra New Moon ushers in roughly two weeks during which we are presented with the opportunity to go deep — about our partnerships — the most important one of which is our relationship to SELF..

With Mercury in Libra until November 2, and Venus in Virgo until November 8, this Libra New Moon provides us the archetypal energy necessary to delve seriously into how our partnerships mirror back to us our very own energies.

However, what’s most important to understand about Libra’s archetypal energy is that it’s always inherently aware of “the other.”

This awareness necessarily leads to understanding “as within, so without,” which in turn allows us to see our true selves through the energetic makeup of someone else…

And it’s our acceptance or rejection of the energies of those around us — and with whom we choose to partner — that tells the tale of true enlightenment!

That’s What She Said…

So what about when “the other” projects back to you stuff you don’t like?

Do you continue to try to change him or her? Or do you assume the only way to relate is to let them walk all over you?

Common sense dictates that many of us fall somewhere in between these two extremes, and that our choices vary throughout our lives, depending on our age and stage.

Transiting Uranus opposite this New Moon may lead to sudden departures in relationships, or — better yet — sudden realizations and aha! moments where all was cloudy but NOW all is clear…

These revelations, regardless of how and about whom they manifest, are meant to teach you more about yourself…

As we move forward toward our highest karmic destiny — which is to know ourselves so that we may love and accept ourselves for who we really are — it benefits us to realize that we discover exactly who we are by using others as our mirror.

And instead of alternately being horrified, hurt, saddened, embarrassed, enraged, or (fill in the blank), we may recognize instead that the words and actions of others stem from within — ourselves!

While this is such a bitter pill for many of us to swallow, swallow it we must if we are interested in growth in consciousness.

Anything that helps provide us with greater knowledge about ourselves in turn allows us to feel compassion.

And when we show compassion to ourselves, we manifest it out in the world in the form of others capable of expressing such compassion back to us…

“So then, the relationship of self to the other is the complete realization that loving yourself is impossible without loving everything defined as other than yourself.”
~ Alan Watts

Think about it: This makes hatred virtually impossible!

When you truly “get” that your shadow side is repressed and then projected out onto others and comes back to you in the form of their words and actions, then you understand why acceptance & love for all beings is important:

Namely because when you accept others for who and what they are, you recognize THEIR energies as your own…

And when this happens, you consciously (or unconsciously!) accept (love, forgive, have compassion for) yourself…

Sun Shifts Into Virtuous Virgo August 23

Posted by Sheri Horn Hasan - August 24, 2015 - Astrology

Spotlight’s On Transforming Service Into Joy!

The Sun shifts gears from bold, brassy, bright Leo into the more demure and less demonstrative energy of Virgo.

While Leo grabs the microphone, belts out a few bars, and waits for the crowd to cheer, Virgo’s the one in the audience keeping track of which lyrics he’s missed and noting not only where he’s off key, but his specific sharps and flats. She then presents Leo with a list and tells him to work on it…

In short, Leo’s about performance while Virgo’s about the details that make up that performance. She sweats the small stuff.

And, aye, there’s the rub! How do we segue from summertime’s height of heat when the Leo Sun’s in its glory and reckless abandon runs amuck, to the quieter, more studious energy of virtuous Virgo?

Seems it’s no surprise that Virgo energy coincides (in the West at least) with back to school schedules.

But putting one’s nose to the grindstone does not have to be all work and no play. There is joy in service, as this quote by the 19th Century Bengali poet, writer, artist, musician, & philosopher Rabindranath Tagore so aptly points out:

“I slept and dreamt that life was joy.
I awoke and saw that life was service.
I acted and behold, service was joy.”

Creative Leo New Moon Energy Still High!

How can you make the best advantage out of the still waxing Leo New Moon energy as the Sun shifts into picky Virgo?

The first thing to remember is that Leo represents the archetype of creativity. While the Moon’s still waxing until August 29, now’s the time to continue to plant your creative seeds, water, and nurture them.

At the upcoming Pisces Full Moon (August 29), these seedlings may sprout into something tangible. They will have–fed at first by the uber-creative energies of the Leo Sun & Leo New Moon–and tended now by the more discerning Sun in Virgo–an excellent chance of blossoming into something real in the future.

What are you working on? What creative seed did you (or can you still) plant this month?

The trick is not to let the Virgo Sun’s energy become overly critical! While you’re enjoying your creative ideas, try not to shoot them down immediately.

Why? Because the combination of these energies right now create a perfect incubator out of which one may give birth to something special and something real…

Instead of annihilating an idea before it has the chance to grow, why not allow Virgo’s discerning energy to refine or review these creative ideas?

Eventually, under the Pisces Full Moon on August 29, the Virgo Sun’s energy will help you to weed out any unnecessary parts and to begin to prune your creative ideas into something that stands a much greater chance of surviving into the future.

I’m reminded of Rachel Platten’s Fight Song, in which she sings:

“Like a small boat
On the ocean
Sending big waves
Into motion
Like how a single word
Can make a heart open
I might only have one match
But I can make an explosion

And all those things I didn’t say
Wrecking balls inside my brain
I will scream them loud tonight
Can you hear my voice this time?

This is my fight song
Take back my life song
Prove I’m alright song
My power’s turned on
Starting right now I’ll be strong
I’ll play my fight song
And I don’t really care if nobody else believes
‘Cause I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me!”

Don’t let the Virgo Sun’s energy become the “wrecking balls” inside your brain!

If you can allow that match to set alight the creative spark within, you can better utilize Virgo’s energy once you’ve fought to believe in yourself and allow that spark to shoot up and become a flame…

Then you can make the best use of Virgo’s energies to ensure your flame is well tended and safely guarded.

In other words, you serve yourself best by allowing Virgo energy to be the keeper of the that creative Leo New Moon flame, not the destroyer of it…and through that flame you eventually enable yourself to serve others…

Namaste…

Cancer New Moon July 15

Say What You NEED To Say & Be Your Own Best Mother!

Say What You NEED To Say & Be Your Own Best Mother!

This Cancer New Moon July 15 calls you to SAY WHAT YOU NEED TO SAY!

Give Voice To–& Express–The Nurturer Within!

There is no one stronger than a mother.

Yup, let me say that again, this time with the proper emphasis: “There is no one stronger than a mother!”

Sure, some of you will immediately wholeheartedly agree.

But what about those of you who experience(d) the “mother” archetype tied to energies other than sensitive, caring, nurturing, and intuitive? What about those who didn’t (don’t) find comfort in their mother’s arms in times of stress?

New Moons are always about planting a seed that eventually leads to a new birth. Full Moons are about release and the birthing process. We get the opportunity to plant new seeds of self-love every New Moon and to give birth to this self-nurturing energy every Full Moon…

This particular New Moon in Cancer resonates with the Sun & Mercury–already in this sign of the nurturing, sensitive, compassionate, intuitive mother archetype.

It provides us with the energy to plant the seed that will ultimately allow us to give birth to our own private mother…not a literal flesh and blood nurturer, but rather the nurturer inside…

The dark of this Cancer New Moon (New Moons are when the Sun & the Moon come together in the sky and light is obscured) gives us the opportunity to proactively plant that new seed so that it has its greatest opportunity to take root and grow.

What are our innermost thoughts and emotions? What is it we need to unburden ourselves of? Where do we need to turn our intuition into the action of putting pen to page, fingers to keyboard, brush to canvas, feet into dance shoes?

Eventually, this seed will lead to the birth–not only of what we really want to say, but what we need to express!

However, to do so, we are tasked with gathering together our most important thoughts, the ones closest to our true emotional message…

These thoughts may not make entire sense, may not gel coherently–yet–but no matter, one has to start somewhere!

The July 1 Capricorn Full Moon attempted to shed its light on where you may be too soft and overly sensitive, or where you may be too harsh in terms of playing your own best authoritarian parent.

The call at that time was to release what does not serve you, and to more successfully integrate these energies into your psyche and your life.

As this Cancer New Moon calls us to communicate that which we feel and intuit, it may be best not to keep it all inside, tightly controlled, and in lock down mode–but rather, as John Meyer reminds us in his song “Say What You Need To Say”:

“Walkin’ like a one man army
Fightin’ with the shadows in your head
Livin’ out the same old moment
Knowin’ you’d be better off instead
If you could only say what you need to say

Have no fear for givin’ in
Have no fear for givin’over
You better know that in the end
It’s better to say too much
Than never to say what you need to say again…”

If you keep it inside forever–in the hope of never having to be judged, or denounced as a fraud, fake, imposter or, worse yet, a plagiarist!–how will others know how you truly feel?

Cancer is the sign of the mother, but a mother cannot gestate her unborn forever–at some point she must give birth or both she and her offspring will die…

Use the energy of this Cancer New Moon to plant that new seed and commit to not only writing, singing, dancing, playing what you feel, but to expressing what you need to say…

Trust me, you’ll feel a whole lot lighter when you do…

Gemini New Moon June 16

Posted by Sheri Horn Hasan - June 16, 2015 - Astrology

What’s Your Story?We Edit

While the Sagittarius Full Moon on June 2 revealed the dichotomy between the truth of our smaller stories and the integrity of our bigger themes, this Gemini New Moon asks us to take a fresh look once again at our stories…

After all, our bigger themes are woven out of these bits and pieces. However, sometimes these microcosms become confusing, or grow so large that they obscure our overall theme.

Gemini energy has to do with the intellect–so thought and communication are its biggest archetypal themes.

Gemini energy is also mutable. As such, it can get stuck in a loop. When we allow our minds to become mired in obsessive thinking–or we become confused by details that seemingly have no larger purpose–often we do ourselves a disservice.

If we want to communicate to others the messages burning deeply inside our hearts and minds, we must first gain clarity about the context of these messages in order to fit them into our overall theme.

I liken Gemini energy run amuck to a dog chasing its tail…or perhaps similar to the chicken and egg question: Which comes first? The big picture or the small?

Do you identify your overarching umbrella theme and then write your stories around that theme? Or do you begin to see the pattern emerge as you preserve your stories in writing?

Aye, there’s the rub! The answer? It depends!

The Devil Is In the Details!

There’s another saying that the Devil is in the details…while this is more the mantra for your editor than for you the author, it serves as a reminder that without the details there is no story.

“I’m like the painter with his nose to the canvas, fussing over details. Gazing from a distance, the reader sees the big picture.” ~ Steven Saylor

However, information devoid of purpose becomes distraction, and many a story can become bogged down when an author becomes too myopic to see her bigger theme.

Information that serves a purpose becomes useful. Knowledge is power, they say, and I wholeheartedly concur!

Every story has a purpose because it makes up the details of your life. If you are writing memoir, then each story is a window into the circumstances that fashioned you into who you are today.

Ditto for self-help manuscripts. Fiction? Well, you must know intimately the details of your characters’ lives even if those details don’t go into print in their totality.

“Many are called; few are chosen; many have talent,
few have the character that can realize the talent.
Character is a mystery, and it is individual.”
~ James Hillman

In other words: Know who you (or your characters) are, because who you are today is what qualifies to you share your stories with others in the first place!

This Gemini New Moon calls us to revisit our stories with an eye toward stitching each tale together seamlessly into what will become the broad tapestry of the story of a life…

New Moons are about intention setting, and this one’s no different! So set your intention now: I will illustrate my larger theme by organizing my smaller stories into a mosaic that–when viewed by my reader–will move her in the most profound of ways!

In the end, that’s what storytelling is all about. The narrative that makes up a life to which others can relate and from whom others can learn…

Namaste…
