Saturn Into Sagittarius: Oh Happy Day!

Posted by Sheri Horn Hasan - September 18, 2015 - Astrology

SATURN IN SCORPIO VS. THE OLD MAN IN SAG

Saturn into Sagittarius follows his trip through Scorpio, when he traversed the murky Plutonian underworld realm from October 2012 until September 17, 2015.

While there, Saturn sank like a stone into Scorpionic waters, and by settling to the bottom (think a pebble thrown into a pond) allowed bits of sand, muck, and settlement to loosen from their foundation and float to the top.

Thus Saturn allowed many secrets and ugly things–you know, those things hidden in our psyches, our SHADOW sides!–to waft their way upward and become visible on the water’s surface.

Such was the alchemical gift of Saturn in Scorpio–he provided us all a look at the stuff we normally don’t want to see.

Saturn is wise, however, and he knows that it was necessary for us to peek under the hood, or poke our stick under the wormy side of the rock.

While some of us recoiled in horror and waited until those bits of flotsam and jetsam sank again to the bottom of this murky watery Plutonian realm, many others recognized the value of viewing the seamy side of our own shit so that we could expose it and transform it (metaphorically) from lead into gold!

Now Saturn enters the sign of Sagittarius until December 19, 2017. There are no accidents, no random occurrences–everything has a purpose and a point. And it’s up to us individually to recognize this…

As we leave for good (well, at least another 29.5 years) the Scorpionic waters through which Saturn paddled for nearly the past three years, we feel the mood begin to shift…

We are rising out of Hades, and the Plutonic realm where everything is tinged with a kind of secret, intense, do or die energy, and lifting up into Sagittarian heights.

It’s true that with Sag energy the sky’s the limit, but as Saturn moves through this sign he grounds our Sagittarian uber-enthusiasm so that it may become manifest in a REAL and more tangible way.

So Saturn in Sag lightens our load…but it’s no coincidence that his journey through this sign of higher education, law, philosophy/religion, and foreign travel (in short, all the energies necessary for growth in consciousness!) follows his visit to Hades…

It is a natural progression; the way of the cosmos…one zodiacal sign follows another specifically to provide us the opportunity to use their energies as building blocks, to stack one upon another, to move forward one foot at a time, day by day…

Wise old man Saturn, having cleared out some of the hidden psychological muck for us to see and deal with, got rid of what no longer serves our future purpose and growth.

NOW he applies his wisdom to that future path–and he allows us to operate from a solid foundation so that we may actually arrive (eventually) at that place where, before, no man has dared to go…

Mission: NOT So Impossible

Whenever I contemplate the archetypal combination of Saturn and Jupiter (the latter being the ruler of the sign Sagittarius), the image of a helium balloon–who’s string is attached to a lead weight to keep it from floating upward and disappearing forever– comes to mind…

The words I use to describe this image are: “the grounding of a dream…”

Jupiter, the king of the gods, represents expansion. Though the concept of “expansion” can (and does) mean several different things to many of us at different times in our lives, to me it’s ultimately about expansion of CONSCIOUSNESS.

Saturn, on the other hand, gives form–to the ancients he represented the element of lead. Alchemists of yore spent much time attempting to perform the miracle of transforming lead into gold.

These literal attempts at alchemy thus proved metaphorical for transformation of matter into spirit, out of flesh meshed with soul…

To me, this archetypal combination becomes the energetic bearer of an individual’s potential to GROUND HIS OR HER DREAM!

This concept becomes relevant to us all as Saturn segues into the sign of Sagittarius (again, ruled by Jupiter) on September 17 and traverses through Sag until December 19, 2017.

WHAT’S YOUR DREAM?

Practical pragmatic Saturn will now–and for the next two years–be lifted into Sag’s higher-minded, optimistic, more buoyant energies. But always Saturn will keep his feet on the ground, his head out of the clouds, and play devil’s advocate in ways that will ensure we concentrate on building that solid foundation on our pathway toward success.

The combination of these two archetypal energies provide us all with the opportunity to succeed at whatever goal we set. Freed now from at least some of our shadow side compulsions, obsessions, and beliefs–the ones that controlled us and prevented us from moving forward–now we continue to build the solid platform upon which success may comfortably rest.

And succeed we shall, with Sag’s “can do!” attitude and Saturn at the controls!

Think about what you want to manifest in the real, physical, tangible world of matter…now is your opportunity to take those formerly pie-in-the-sky ideas and flesh them out into something true, something real–because NOW is the time to take that “seed dream” and transform it–with Saturn’s help–into matter…

You’ll never know if you don’t try…just make sure you back up your dreams with a healthy dose of reality and you’re on your way…

Eventually, once launched, your dream will light up the sky–as long as you’ve got that Saturnian lead weight at the bottom of your helium balloon to ensure it does not disappear into the ethers never to be seen or heard from again!

YOU CAN DO IT!

SATURN IN THE LAST DEGREE OF SCORPIO

Posted by Sheri Horn Hasan - September 15, 2015 - Astrology

PART TWO

Saturn in the last degree of Scorpio concludes his trip through this sign–at least for another 29.5 years…

A Saturn transit–including his retrograde periods–often results in the removal of someone or something from one’s life (person/relationship, job, house, money or other material possessions) that’s no longer necessary to our soul’s future growth or purpose.

Only then may we clear room in our lives for something better to enter…

MAKING SENSE OF LOSS

The entire month of July I watched as my 88 year-old mother’s health suddenly declined. I sought medical attention for her, prayed, meditated, sat with, and supported her until her spirit decided to depart this earthly plane on July 28.

All the while, I was cognizant that transiting Saturn retrograde was re-squaring a potentially ruthless Pluto/Mars opposition in my natal chart.

Saturn stationed direct in Scorpio on August 2, two days after Venus retrograde entered the sign of Leo on July 31. July 31 was the day we buried Mom…

These two transiting planets were also squaring each other in the sky–a signature that often centers around duty/responsibility to those whom (or that which) we love…

Saturn doesn’t mess around. As noted, he may ruthlessly (or so it seems) pluck from our lives that which is no longer instrumental to our future growth.

While often difficult for us to accept, Saturn is all about reality…grow up or lose out, he says. Nothing riles up Saturn more than one’s refusal to mature, or the insistent inclination to remain always a child (young, dependent, irresponsible, oblivious to consequences, etc.)

So when Saturn comes calling, it behooves us all to listen up.

Though many view Saturn as a punitive influence when this planet’s archetypal energy messes with our lives, in reality he serves a most important purpose: he shows us it’s not only possible, but absolutely necessary to soldier on…

Thus his reputation as Lord of Karma…

When my father died nineteen years ago, I simply didn’t get it.

How could the universe, God–whomever–take him from me?

And when my mom was first diagnosed with Parkinson’s & dementia in 2006/7, I thought: Oh my God, if anything happens to her, I’ll be an orphan!

Initially that thought scared the sh&# out of me, despite the fact that I was already, er, shall we say, not young…

However, with Mom’s recent passing, I’m aware–thanks to Saturn–that I can’t go on being a child forever. Hey, it was nice while it lasted, but I gotta grow up sometime and now’s as good a time as any, eh?

Often a Saturn transit (or retrograde period) simply asks us to sit still so we can hear the voice of our higher self–the one that so often gets drowned out by daily life…

However, if we hear only an internalized authoritarian parent’s voice–you know, the JUDGMENTAL one–the one that says the nastiest things to us and actually gets away with it!–we may well collapse under such a heavy weight.

Distinguishing between our higher self’s voice and the automatic, repetitive, self-doubting/shaming/overly critical “how come I can never do anything right?”, “I’ll never amount to anything in this world”, “who the f*^k do I think I AM?”, “yeah but, I’m no good at that,” and the “boy, do I SUCK!” one is not really all that difficult.

The higher self, inner voice, authentic voice, spirit–whatever one chooses to call it–is your TRUE voice, as that is the one that connects you to the divine. And that is the one to which you MUST listen…

MOVING FORWARD BY STEPPING BACK…

Take a stroll down memory lane, back to between November 29, 1982 and November 16, 1985 (when Saturn last traveled through Scorpio) and see where you were in your life then…chances are you were asked to let go of something at that stage of your life too…

Reflecting on who or what people, jobs, homes, schools, finances, etc., can be helpful to you now as you take the time to look back and realize the true purpose behind such losses…

And if you were not yet born, know that the future heralds a recurrence of the energy of this recent Saturn transit through Scorpio, beginning in November 2042…though you will undoubtedly be much wiser by then!

Take your time now, as the truth is that your karmic destiny is continually set by every choice you make going forward.

Choose to hang onto the negative shit, or let it go? This is the 11th hour question as Saturn nears the end of his run in secretive, taboo-oriented, Scorpio.

In the end, Saturn leaves us feeling more SOLID because he removes the burden of carrying FOREVER within the negativity about ourselves that keeps us weighed down, trapped, and incapable of moving forward.

It’s simply that while he’s pointing out to us what must go in order to ensure our further maturation, often it hurts.

Again, do yourself a favor: Look back in your life 29.5 years–when Saturn was last at 29 degrees of Scorpio, and remember…the past is what we learn from; without scrutinizing it at least the tiniest bit, often we’re doomed to repeat it.

In the end, Saturn’s concerned with what you learn about standing on your own two feet as you move forward. If–while in Scorpio–he’s taught you to let go of that nasty voice in your head, then his work here is done–for now…

Namaste…

Saturn In The Last Degree Of Scorpio

Posted by Sheri Horn Hasan - September 11, 2015 - Astrology

PART ONE:

Saturn in the last degree of Scorpio (29 Scorpio) since September 1 stays there until September 17 when he bids Scorpio adieu for another 29 and a half years and moves into the sign of Sagittarius.

Sometimes likened to the grim reaper, Saturn is often feared by astrologers. Known as the “Lord of Karma” and “Father Time,” this planet’s ability to strike terror in the hearts of mortals has existed since the ancients watched his movements closely and with fear over millennia.

In reality, however, the archetype of Saturn–always serious and never a barrel full of laughs–represents for us all the process of maturation.

When Saturn comes calling (either through a transit to one of our natal planets or important points, via another planet in the sky aspecting our natal Saturn, or simply through the house he’s currently transiting in your chart), he’s asking us to GROW UP.

As Peter Pan figured out, growing up is often not much fun. It means taking on responsibility, viewing our world through a much wiser lens, and building for ourselves the kind of foundation (be it physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual) that will last.

Saturn represents boundaries.

In one’s natal chart, the planet Saturn signifies the authoritarian parental figure in our early lives–be that our mother, father, or anybody else who played this role when we were young–who restricted us from running willy-nilly into the street to be hit by a truck.

Sometimes this part may even have been played by a parental substitute such as an institution, corporation, or religious or governmental body that provided foundational support (for better or for worse), but who also imposed restrictions upon you.

I refer to Saturn as the planet who’s energy reminds us that we can’t have dessert until we finish our dinner, and that we can’t go out to play until we’ve done our homework…

Saturn’s TRUE purpose?

To lay the foundation upon which we may build our lives so that we may–through recognizing appropriate boundaries–realize our dreams through grounding them.

This, in turn, allows us to actually manifest these dreams into something REAL, and thereby fulfill this lifetime’s karmic destiny–a.k.a. our soul’s true purpose!

LETTING GO OF ALL THAT NO LONGER SERVES

September 17 marks the end of Saturn’s two and a half year journey through Scorpio, the archetypal energy of transformation, death, rebirth, sexuality, deep trust & bonding, joint resources, and other peoples’ money.

The Scorpio archetype often represents secrets–particularly around anything considered to be “taboo,” such as sex, death, & rock ‘n roll (nah, just kidding, haha– well, about the rock ‘n roll, that is…)

Saturn in Scorpio has already brought to the surface all kinds of “secrets” that have shaken the foundation of those for whom he’s hitting sensitive chart points.

The coming to light of Bill Cosby’s sordid sexual past (during which he sexually violated unwilling women) and the recent release of Ashley Madison subscriber names (those who sought secret sexual liaisons specifically for the purpose of cheating on a spouse or significant other) are but only two relatively recent examples…

There are many more skeletons that have floated to the surface for many of us since Saturn entered Scorpio in October 2012.

Ah, but here’s the key: The Pluto-ruled Scorpio archetype is about all those nasty things that lurk beneath the surface. Saturn’s journey through this sign has pried these nasty’s (the TRUE motivations behind your thoughts, desires, actions–of the venal, carnal and just-about-any-kind) from your innermost psyche, and allowed them to float freely to the surface.

To be cognizant of what lurked beneath your consciousness is to be free of their negative effects upon you.

Ergo, Saturn’s trip through Scorpio–while not exactly a bed of roses–has been extremely lightening (and enlightening!) in its own way…

So what skeletons have come out of your closest since October 2012 when Saturn entered Scorpio?

What long-held secrets, sexual relationships (compulsive or otherwise), joint financial resources, and distrust/trust of another/others can you breathe a sigh of relief to now have revealed to the world?

In the end, which of these secrets has freed you from your torment, your anguish, or the just plain exhaustion of repressing, stuffing, sitting on, or preventing them from reaching the cold hard light of day?

As Saturn readies himself to enter Sagittarius on September 17 for the next two and a half years–it’s time to ask ourselves if we’ve got something still to confess and release…

…something hidden so deep that we must decide if it’s easier to continue along the same path forward than it is to turn around and go back…

During these next few days, Saturn is asking us all to reflect upon what has either already been taken from our lives, or what still needs to go.

It’s now or never, folks, because Saturn’s determined to have you release from your subconscious all of those secrets that grip you by the throat and demand you shove your hand in your pocket and pay up–or else…

And that’s because Saturn KNOWS that it’s these things, hidden deep within, that keep you from realizing your dream–particularly if that dream is currently UNREALISTIC or ungrounded.

Whatever has left your life, or is yet to leave–whatever cat’s gotten out of the bag–is intended to make you stronger, not weaker, and able to stand on your own two feet–alone…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAPRICORNS!

Posted by Sheri Horn Hasan - December 23, 2014 - Astrology
0
careerThe Sun sailed into the zodiacal sign of Capricornus (more commonly known as Capricorn) on December 21, and was greeted by the Moon as she entered that sign as well, resulting in a Capricorn New Moon. What an auspicious beginning for the Sun’s journey through the sign of your birth!

So listen up, all you authors, creatives, & intuitives!

This Capricorn New Moon, who’s dark of the Moon rays we are all under until Tuesday night, December 23, represents the best time to plant your seed, whatever that seed may be.

Planting that seed will enable it, with a lot of nurturing, to blossom ultimately into writing that book, and/or creating anything you want to bring into manifestation!

Why do I say that? Because Capricorn is an earth sign ruled by the planet Saturn, and among its energies lie the capability to build the foundation upon which you can rest your ultimate, well-crafted success.

No one knows better than those who carry within Capricorn/Saturn energy how easily and often success is within your grasp! However, in order to accomplish your goals, you must build that solid foundation, add the walls, then the roof, and–voila!–you have your house!

Easy as pie, right?

Well, not always…it depends on whether you express your archetypal Capricorn/Saturn energies negatively or positively!

Often those who carry Saturnine energy within bear the mark of people who’ve been forced to parent themselves at an early age, regardless of the reason why. Therefore, they’ve learned to rely only on themselves to make judgments about what is right, wrong, good, or bad.

Others may have experienced early environments where they were restricted in their capability to express, be it verbally/mentally, physically, emotionally, or spiritually. Over time, however, this restriction becomes internalized and the individual no longer identifies it with an outside authority figure, but rather believes it to be their natural, internal nature.

Since Mercury is also in the sign of Capricorn from December 18, 2014 until January 6, 2015, you may be doubly less than forgiving of your perceived imperfections…

Mercury’s energy represents our intellect and how we communicate what we desire most to express.      In the sign of Capricorn, we may tend to self-censor, and be judgmental, critical, or perfectionist.

Sweeping aside this often “learned” self-judgment can happen once we understand the child within, and that she deserves to be loved, honored and listened to, no matter what…

Identifying your internalized parental voice–whether it hails from a mother, father, grandparent, teacher, cleric, judge, or anyone else–is an important step in learning to express the authentic you!

Move From Authoritarian Parent to Inner Child

I always say there is no judgment in archetypes–they simply are the energies present in us all. It’s these archetypal energies which form the common bond between humans who span the globe, regardless of race, gender, religion, politics, yada, yada, yada…

Some of us carry Capricorn/Saturn energy to a greater degree than others. And Saturn/Capricorn is a hard energy because its seeks the accomplishment of success at all costs.

It’s the energy within that drives one to burn the midnight oil, to toil until the wee hours in order to get the job done–and done right! Capricorn/Saturn energy tolerates no slackers!

Terrific energy if one is building an empire–and many with strong Capricorn/Saturn energy have done just that!–but not so great when it comes to self-nurturing…

The key lies in Capricorn’s opposite zodiac polarity: Cancer! Cancer is the sign of the mother, sensitivity, compassion, roots, family, tradition, and security. What those born under the sign of Capricorn–or who possess a preponderance of heavy Saturnine energy–need most is nurturing.

We all possess an inner child, but the Capricorn/Saturn archetype is that of the adult, the parental figure, the authority! How difficult is it to nurture yourself when you’re always trying to be the grownup?

It’s well known that Capricorn/Saturnine people are old when they’re young, and grow younger as they age. This is because their concern with success when they’re young–and often about doing things the right way–overrides their need to self-nurture.

So listen up, Capricorns! Today is the first day of the rest of your life!

Under this Capricorn New Moon energy that kicks off the duration of the Sun’s journey through your Saturnine archetypal sign, why not treat yourself as you would a child?
Why not talk to your inner child–ask her what she wants, what she needs–reach out to her and let her speak!

Through her, you just might access your higher self, your authentic voice, and get in touch with the real you!

The real you is the one who can help integrate the part of you that understands the early bird gets the worm, and hard work results in success, with the part of you who needs unconditional love–now and always!

Pink’s song and video Pretty Pretty Please best illustrate this point:

Forgive me, those of you who may feel it’s a bit harsh. Capricorn energy, when it’s deeply internalized and stems from inner judgment, often is quite harsh, and that’s what this video points out…

…the song & video, however, aim to share a deeply moving message to those of us who are uber-hard on ourselves. And often at the expense of our sensitive inner child who needs–more than anything–unconditional love and approval…enjoy, and as my Capricorn mother always says: Do something nice for yourself–today and everyday!” (P.S. Please forgive the commercial–it’s worth the wait!)
