Taurus Full Moon November 14

Taurus Full Moon: We Have Met The Shadow & He Is Us…
This Taurus Full Moon reflects back to us on Earth the light of the Scorpio Sun, providing the opportunity to see not only that which was formerly hidden but also that which is obvious.
The Sun in Scorpio shines brightly this month until it moves forward on November 21 to highlight the sign of Sagittarius. What’s being illuminated now, however, is both Scorpio’s inherent need for transformation (this sign LIVES to die and be reborn!), and its polar opposite energy: Taurus.
Taurus is strong–it’s an energy that plods along but, like the bull, when he puts his shoulder to the wheel, ultimately, and patiently, he can move mountains. He is placid and peace-loving, preferring to sit under a shady tree and watch the world go by. In short, he prefers to make love, not war…
So, Scorpio—in its quest for transformation—must understand the need for patience. Rome, after all, wasn’t built in a day, as they say…
However, patience should not be tantamount to either the kind of obstinacy which abhors change to the point where it digs in its heels and resists at all costs, OR laziness–another less favorable potential Taurus trait.
Transforming Our Values
Taurus is an archetypal energy that’s about values. Some of us may find under this Taurus Full Moon that what we value now pales in comparison with what we thought we valued before.
The most obvious example of this is whether it matters more that you have the latest, snazziest version of your make of car, or whether you’re living under a political system that promotes peace and harmony.
Taurus energy is about values, but Taurus energy can be lazy about both identifying and living its authentic values.
Our ego can trick us into thinking we know what we value, however our unconscious mind inherently intuits what the individual soul truly values. The juxtaposition between these two is what’s being highlighted now by the Taurus Full Moon.
For those ready to make progress and move toward greater consciousness about what their soul truly needs to be happy in this lifetime—and not just what their ego thinks it wants—this is a pivotal moment.
Scorpio is the master of the shadow. What is hidden deeply within the recesses of an individual’s psyche is a lot of crap. But buried below and amongst that crap, in places few and far between, are nuggets of pure gold and other precious metals.
This is the psychological metaphor of the underworld. These nuggets of gold are represented by the earthy, tangible, concrete form of Taurus Moon energy which, when translated, represent our true core values.
The highlighting of Scorpio’s shadow calls us all to dig down deeply now and pull out from under the muck, mire, and rubble, these values which define us and which we hold dear.
It is only these values that are worth fighting for–but it is these, on an individual basis—that cause us to rise as part a unified collective.
Drawing A Line In The Sand
It is hard to keep a discussion of these lunar phases (or astrology in general) out of the realm of American politics right now, so I’m not even going to try.
The polarization between transformation–and the need to incorporate into that transformation what our souls’ truly value–is obvious when we look at the recent U.S. presidential election.
America’s values have been revealed with startling clarity on this Taurus Full Moon.
What’s very clear is that between the October 30 Scorpio New Moon and today’s Full Moon in Taurus, light has been shed upon the more hidden aspects of a population dissatisfied with the status quo.
This light has revealed deep pockets of resentment that went undetected by many for quite some time, and the existing deep divide between some who feel their values are being disrespected vs. others who’ve taken the things they truly value for granted.
There are those who believe our president-elect is going to save them. And there are those who believe he will shepherd us toward our ultimate demise.
Regardless of which side you fall on, one thing is very clear: the line has been drawn.
As the schism between the drawn lines begins to widen, it’s going to becomeless and less possible to hang out on the fringes and simply observe.
What will be the outcome?
I sure as heck don’t know. But of this I’m certain: becoming clear about our individual psyches’ values—the ones that help us determine what we stand for and where we draw our line—is our individual task now. Individual psyches form the collective unconscious, which in turn can give rise to larger than life shadow figures that we then project onto our mental screens as saviors or redeemers…
Therefore, it behooves each of us to begin, or continue, the excavation process because if we remain in the dark about what it is we truly value, our fears get the best of us, become projected, and manifest externally.
Keeping the light on under the Taurus Full Moon is necessary for those of us who want to live in future peace and harmony. Only when we integrate our individual shadows into our individual psyches do we lessen the possibility that the collective unconscious will manifest our worst fears…
Mercury Squares Neptune & The Nodes
Mercury in Sagittarius—the maker of laws, the teller of truth, and/or the liar and exaggerator–is squaring Neptune, which is conjunct the transiting South Node in Pisces, and the North Node in Virgo.
Often, modern astrologers attempt to put a positive “spin” on what might otherwise be deemed “negative” aspects. However, most of us modern-day psychological and evolutionary astrologers see neither positive nor negative. Instead, we view all planetary movements and their ensuing energies felt here on Earth as continuous wake up calls meant to spur us all toward becoming more conscious individuals.
Though I see and read all the time astrologers who scream about how Mercury square Neptune means that “one is a liar,” especially if that person is prominently in the public eye (for whatever reason), that is a narrow way of looking at this energy.
That said, however, it can denote that the truth is stretched. Mercury in Sag alone is an energy that can stretch the truth. It can be anything from an entertaining raconteur to a hardcore liar.
Neptune, the planet of illusion, confusion, and delusion, does provide an atmosphere under which people can be beguiled into believing what they want to believe, and not necessarily what is factually true.
Thrust into today’s political context (meaning the not-so-long-ago morning after the U.S. presidential election), we can view this current astrological energy through whichever lens we choose. And most of us will do just that.
So, the square of transiting Mercury (an energy less concerned with details than with the bigger picture) to Neptune (the great dissolver, and planet of illusion, confusion, and delusion) can denote the communication disconnect prevalent in the current political atmosphere.
Picture Neptune sitting on the South Node with his hands over his hears screaming “I can’t hear you!” and I’m sure you’ll get my point. De Nile is a river in Egypt, as they say where I come from…
Truth Or…
Whether it’s about truth or outright lies–or about the perception that someone is only saying what one wants to hear or believe to be true–only time will tell…a discussion of what is fact and what is not is out of the realm of this particular post.
It is, however, at this Taurus Full Moon, shown to be an energy in play. The conversation about who’s fact is factest or factiest, or right or righter or rightest will doubtless be ongoing in these next few months and years going forward.
So, right now we are seeing where the rubber meets the road in terms of whether or not the promises made–that appear to reflect the values of the populace that voted this president-elect into office–are real or simply a mirage.
If a mirage, the values of those who did not vote him into office will slowlycause them to get up from their peace-filled pastures and trot their little hoofies onto our city’s streets in protest.
Nothing may move some faster than the discovery of outright lies or exaggerations designed to carry within them the ultimate goal of ramming one’s beliefs down another’s throat. Pronouncements about repealing (dissolving) existing laws and regulations and instituting newer, but vague, ones, may also spur many into action…
At the same time, however, Mercury’s square to the Nodes can illustrate others’ difficulty (or refusal) accepting such changes—especially those changes leading to the breakdown of existing structures and laws and the ensuing vacuum—and resulting fear–this is likely to create.
So, what’s being revealed here on this Taurus Full Moon is people’s true values. Whether those values do, in fact, reflect back to them by the person they chose to lead the U.S. through thick and thin, or whether that nominee bedazzled them with exaggerated statements and euphemistic promises, remains to be seen.
The proof is in the pudding—an apt metaphor for Taurus energy, which, if nothing else, likes to have its pudding and eat it to. If there turns out to be no pudding, we’ll have a lot of unhappy people, Taurus’s or otherwise…
Pallas Athena Squares The Full Moon
Pallas Athena, the only female in the pantheon of Greek gods to be accorded the right to cast a vote as a member of the jury at the trial of Orestes—accused of matricide when he murdered his mother to avenge his father’s killing by her—is waxing into a square with this Taurus Full Moon.
Astrologer Demetra George credits Pallas Athena as ruling energies in alignment with social justice and political activism in her book “Asteroid Goddesses.”
This frictional confrontational square by an asteroid representative of looking at the situation with detachment, i.e., less emotion and more rationality, echoes our predicament in this present moment at this Taurus Full Moon.
Does one go with one’s heart or with one’s rational mind? Do we rely on a “just the facts m’am” methodology of deciding what’s right and fair for ourselves, or do we allow our heart to rule? Such is our present dilemma…
Revolution occurs when people are angry enough to take to the streets. For whatever reason, and there are many of them, people are angry right now. This post is a cautionary and explanatory piece designed to allow everyone to think for themselves about where they will draw their individual line in the sand.
The question for the rest of us becomes: Do we have to—do we want to—move our little tushies into the fray and stand up for what we believe in?
Also, Jupiter sextiles Saturn as it moves into a square with Pluto. The question is this: how easy will it be for a new king to take the power of the throne? Will Jupiter, the great benefic, king of the gods, initiator of good luck and good fortune (and the sign currently disposited by Mercury) get out his boxing gloves and begins to spar with the underworld god of transformation? Or will Jupiter find a way around the dark lord–or vice versa??
Mars quincunxes the Virgo North Node and semi-sextiles Neptune and the Pisces South Node, meaning there’s likely to be some flies in the ointment in terms of push back as we move forward collectively…
How Did We Read The Stars So Wrong?
Many of us have been shocked into awareness over this past month. The last Aries Full Moon set the stage for such shock when the Aries Moon conjoined with Uranus (the planet of unexpected change) and Eris, the goddess of discord, and opposed the harmonious Libra Sun.
I wrote the following in my October 16 post:
“What we often don’t recognize is that our need for change originates internally and subconsciously but that we project this need out to others who actually take the actions that cause the desired change…
“Our conscious ego–with likes to deal only with that which it can see, hear, feel, and touch–may seek to protect our psyches at all costs from such an unwanted intrusion by the subconscious…and the greater our suppression of our soul’s need for change, the more shocking the change will be…
“The combination of all these energies at this Aries Full Moon may result in our having to take independent action of some kind, and that action is likely to manifest through voicing our own opinions and/or making clear our individuality, on some level at least.
In other words, sometimes on simply has to take a stand.”
What any good predictive astrologer knows (and I do not count myself among those who predict for a living) is that events are often caused by short term “triggers.”
The stage is set by the slower moving planets, and the faster ones trigger their energies into manifestation, be it in the collective or on a personal level, depending on at which chart you are looking…
The many astrologers who predicted a Clinton win—many of whom may not have separated their left leaning political views and/or their desire for a first female U.S. president out of the equation—clearly did not take into account several last minute unexpected shocks and shifts in direction, in my opinion.
Which isn’t to say that the few astrologers who did predict correctly were not similarly influenced by their own, more right leaning, political views. I haven’t seen any who wrote about this past Aries Full Moon energy tie it (at the time) to the likes of James Comey, head of the F.B.I, who’s sudden announcements eleven days before the election (and two days before the Scorpio New Moon) undoubtedly affected its ultimate outcome…
The Square Dances On…
This Taurus Full Moon occurs against the backdrop of the slower, more evolutionary energies still evolving right now in the sky. It, theoretically, can also be a trigger, since it’s immediate energy is in effect for 48 hours or so past the exact opposition of the Sun and Moon in the sky, though sets longer the tone for the next 14 days of waning lunar energy…
The energies of the Uranus/Pluto square dance, ongoing since 2012, is still in play. These are energies that foretell, on one hand, revolution, and on the other suppression of revolutions.
Pluto is in Capricorn. This translates into an energy that predicts—between late 2008 and 2023–the death and rebirth of “business as usual.” Prior to that demise, however, which has not happened here yet in the U.S. (but may be happening now), anything related to a Saturn/Capricorn theme (business, stock market, upward mobility, financial prosperity, to name just a few) may be under Pluto’s microscope and destined for transformation.
Uranus is in Aries, and has been since 2010, fomenting revolution in many places around the world, starting with the notorious Arab spring uprising in the Middle East and extending to the U.S. today. It will remain in the sign of the god of war until the spring of 2018.
The Saturn/Neptune square—active for most of 2016 and still in effect, as well—echoes the Uranus/Pluto square dance. The latter is the back beat, if you will, or the scenic backdrop, while in the foreground throughout 2016 the Saturn/Neptune square took center stage.
Evident in those attempting to overthrow authoritarian structures—and in so much around us, not the least of which is the flight and drowning of so many refugees from the Syria and other part of the Middle East, and Africa—this energy lingers…
So, where does this leave us?
It leaves us with a cautionary note to check our egos at the door and not let the boundaries of our ego–which are necessary for us to make progress in this lifetime–overshadow or wall out our inner intuitive soul’s knowing…
The soul knows your true values, the ones that outlast republics and administrations, presidents and kings…
In tribute to Leonard Cohen, here’s his song Hallelujah which somehow seems fitting for the occasion:
Well, your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew ya…
She tied to you her kitchen chair
And she broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah…
And I’ve seen you flag on the marble arch
And love is not a victory march
It’s a cold and broken Hallelujah…
Maybe there’s a God above
But all I’ve ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya
And it’s not a cry that you hear at night
It’s not somebody who’s seen the light
It’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah…
Namaste…
archetype, consciousness, Nodes, Scorpio, shadow, Sun, Taurus full moon, transformation, ValuesScorpio New Moon October 30

On this Scorpio New Moon, when the Moon meets up with the Sun in the sign of the scorpion (who’s sting can transform us from one dimension to another, i.e., through the transformative cycle of death and rebirth), the time is ripe for evolution…
What kind of evolution?
EVOLUTION REVOLUTION!
Well, evolution implies the need for change, and when it comes to Scorpio energy, it’s about empowerment and/or dis-empowerment.
Whichever way you roll, it’s got the word power in it, lol…
Ergo, the question becomes: will change help move us toward true personal empowerment, or will resistance keep us hidden back in the shadows attempting to pull the puppet strings from afar, thereby controlling situations without honestly confronting them?
The Scorpio archetype revolves around the concept of wholeness and regeneration, which is why one of the key words for this sign is transformation.
The universe is made up of energy, and energy needs to constantly flow as that’s its nature. When we refuse to move toward change, we deny a law of nature. And that usually comes at a price far higher than most of us are willing to acknowledge, never mind admit…
WILLING TO MARCH INTO HELL FOR A HEAVENLY CAUSE?
Scorpio also carries a psychic signature. Pluto–after whom the sign’s modern ruling planet is named—is the Greek god of Hades, the underworld.
Able to imperceptibly cross the divide between the earthly plane of humans and Hades, known as the land of “shades” to the ancient Greeks, Pluto represents the realm of souls who’ve “crossed over” from one dimension to another after the soul leaves the body at death.
It’s this “crossing of the divide” that most interests a psychological/archetypal/evolutionary astrologer like me…
Renowned psychological astrologer Liz Greene has written and lectured about how the planet Pluto, the modern ruler of the sign Scorpio, attempts to annihilate anything it touches.
Her point? That the Scorpio archetype is part of the alchemical process of change, or the normal (and necessary) course of evolution (including transformation through the cycles of death and rebirth) inherent in all life forms…
Unlike Scorpio’s traditional ruler, the planet Mars, Pluto is less interested in fighting (be it for a just cause or simply because one has a chip on one’s shoulder!) than he is in evolving.
“Fighting for territory, fighting to win, fighting for a mate, fighting to procreate, fighting for leadership of the pack–these are all Mars functions,” writes Greene in “The Mars Quartet.”
“Pluto is concerned with the overall evolution and survival of life, but survival does not necessarily involve fighting, and evolution may require adaptation…”
The risk behind not adapting is extinction, Greene adds.
If and when forced to fight, Pluto’s battle cry sounds like this: Change or be changed! You can go easy or you can go hard, but either way you’re goin’…how you go is your choice…
SOMETIMES THE SHADOW WINS
Scorpio energy likes to dig deeply into the seamy side of life. Of all the signs, Scorpio is most indicative of our “shadow side.” That’s because everyone’s shadow lies buried deep within and only by dragging it out into the light can it be seen in its proper perspective.
If we’re brave enough and don’t falter–though we may at times tremble with fear–we allow ourselves to travel beyond our ego’s borders into the misty twilit swamps of our unconscious mind…
What we discover there could change us irrevocably…
It’s never easy to try to learn what we don’t know, but only by digging deeply—asking questions, being persistent, not taking no for an answer—can we begin to make progress.
Only by bravely standing at the ready to hear, see, feel, taste, touch, and ACCEPT–regardless of final outcome–can we begin to integrate the unconscious into consciousness and thereby become truly WHOLE…
Thus, this Scorpio New Moon is about embracing the shadow rather than obliterating it…
HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL…
So what’s it gonna be for you on this Scorpio New Moon?
We receive a potential boost from this Scorpio New Moon–which falls at 7 degrees, 43 minutes–because it conjuncts Mercury, trines transiting Neptune and the South Node in Pisces, and sextiles the Virgo North Node.
A trine is a 120-degree angle–known as a “soft aspect”—that allows circumstances or people to move forward easily. Of course, there’s no guarantee that “forward” is “good,” as such easy momentum can also result in situations or people moving TOO fast…
This trine to Neptune/South Node can go one of two ways: you may find moving out of the Neptune/Pisces South Node energy of escapist or addictive behavior, and/or victim or martyr tendencies, comes easily to you now.
Or, you might let the ease of this transiting aspect suck you back into the oblivion of an insulated, passive, somebody-else-has-to-take-care-if-it-and/or-me attitude of yesteryear…
My money’s on the former, mostly because this Scorpio New Moon also sextiles the Virgo North Node. Sextiles are 60-degree angles that represent opportunities, as long as we are smart and swift enough to recognize and act on them.
Now is the time to seize the day and move away from any Neptune-induced fog into which we may have become immersed (especially with the recent Saturn square Neptune energy of this past year still in evidence) and toward the clarity of Virgoan discernment.
Virgo sweats the details. Pisces does not. Need I say more?
Recognizing one has a choice is the first step in the battle toward bringing the unconscious into consciousness. And integrating the dark into the light allows us to better achieve our karmic mission in this lifetime…
Helping us to think (and dig) more clearly and deeply into our situation–and how we might profitably plumb the depths of our psyches to excavate and extricate our true inner wisdom–is the Scorpio New Moon’s conjunction with Mercury.
Powerfully deep is Mercury in Scorpio—with heart (Moon), ego (Sun), and mind (Mercury) in alignment there are no depths to which we cannot (or will not) dive!
The potential result?
The planting now of seeds of self-empowerment which ultimately produce perennial and evergreen buds that bloom into a beautiful garden. In turn, we’re likely to reap the benefits of increased self-confidence and gain the type of empowerment borne out of self-knowledge and greater understanding.
Such enlightenment not only increases our ability to recognize, but to speak, our truth and to stand up and be counted…
HEAVEN HELP US ALL
Helping us to “sweat the details” also is a Venus/Saturn meet up during this 48-hour dark of the moon period.
Venus is about values; Saturn about maturation, among other things. When the two cross paths in the sky like this, we can also go one of two ways but always we’re asked either to make a commitment or to give something up.
If the latter, we should rest assured that whatever we give up is no longer instrumental to our future growth. It’s not always easy, and sometimes may cause pain, but it’s always about moving forward free and clear of obligations that will serve no future purpose other than to weigh us down and impede our karmic progress in the end…
This Venus/Saturn pair up also square Neptune and the Nodes (karmic indicators), strengthening the notion that whatever commitment you’re asked to make–or challenge you face now about letting someone or something go–has longer term implications for you.
If you’ve experienced anything sudden and/or unexpected in the past few days, it’s likely the effect of Mars having squared Uranus on October 28. When these two planets connect via a hard angle (as the square is known) this “something sudden” may prove problematic in some way…
The challenge, as always, is to face it squarely and recognize the need for change. Occurring so close to this Scorpio New Moon, can you see the redundancy of the theme of CHANGE?
Finally, Jupiter is approaching an exact square to Pluto on November 20. As he does so, the energy is waxing, or getting stronger.
Jupiter, the king of gods—the great benefic who often brings good luck and good fortune, and about whom the worst that can be said is that he brings TOO MUCH of something—is getting ready to confront the god of transformation.
I interpret Jupiter as THE planet of higher consciousness. His square to Pluto indicates—again following this Scorpio New Moon’s theme of TRANSFORMATION—that taking the higher road toward transforming darkness into light in the form of self-knowledge may not be easily achieved, but is one way we can proactively choose to go…
Harking back to the Venus/Saturn square to the karmic Nodes, Jupiter’s square to Pluto is also about conquering any resulting difficulty we may have believing in ourselves. Whatever commitments we make, whatever we’re forced to give up, trusting it’s all for our highest and best good–regardless of any opposition (internal or external!)–is called for now…
Continuing to have faith that whatever decision we make will mature us and stand us in good stead down the road is one not-so-small step forward in our karmic evolution …
Namaste…
Here’s the song Heaven Help Us All, performed by Ray Charles, reminding us all to keep the faith:
“Heaven help the boy who never had a home,
Heaven help the girl who walks the street alone
Heaven help the roses if the bombs begin to fall,
Heaven help us all.
Heaven help the black man if he struggles one more day,
Heaven help the white man if he turns his back away,
Heaven help the man who kicks the man who has to crawl,
Heaven help us all.
Heaven help the boy who won’t reach twenty-one,
Heaven help the man who gave that boy a gun.
Heaven help the people with their backs against the wall,
Lord, Heaven help us all.”

Mars Enters Scorpio January 3

When Mars enters Scorpio it’s a wham bam, thank you ma’am, full speed ahead kind of energy! If you’re not careful, you might not know what hit you…
Listen Up & Look Out!
When the planet of personal will—Mars=I AM—transits through the sign of transformation at all costs, death & rebirth, change or be changed—we’ve got quite a potentially combustible combination.
Don’t forget that in traditional astrology—way before the planet Pluto was discovered in 1930—Mars ruled Scorpio. Hence, to say this is very strong energy would be an understatement…
The purpose of Mars in our charts is to aid and abet the Sun in achieving its highest potential in this lifetime. In the sign of Scorpio, Mars calls us to look at where we’ve become disempowered in ways that do not allow us to move or express ourselves freely.
No Pain, No Gain
No pain, no gain, is a Mars in Scorpio kind of attitude.
There is a huge amount of power behind the nuclear nature of the planet of the warrior, athlete, & hero when it transits through the sign ruled by the god of the underworld and all things intense, hidden, taboo, and unconscious.
The motivation to dig deeply into your subconscious to identify patterns that cause you to act or move in certain ways throughout life—patterns that you might not want to repeat going forward!–is at hand.
When Mars enters Scorpio, an important question arises: How much of an opportunity is this for you to leave behind the victim and/or perpetrator mentality and transform it into energy that defends and protects those who are weaker and less able to protect and defend themselves?
While there’s a call to transform ourselves in areas where we previously felt unable to speak, move, act, or think freely, Mars in Scorpio’s full speed ahead, pedal to the metal, it’s too late to turn back now, forward thrust energy provides us with the momentum necessary push through to gain the kind of personal transformation desired.
In short, there’s ample wind behind our sails to accomplish our aims…
So Mars in Scorpio can be quite an exciting time if one chooses to think of it this way…
Now—until March 5 (and when Mars retrogrades back into Scorpio on May 28 & stays there until August 3)—you’ll doubtless be presented with opportunities to identify, unearth, & excavate these unconscious patterns. Only then may you bring them forward into the light so you can examine them, keep what you want, ditch the rest, and forge a new path going forward!
Sex & Money
Negative manifestations of this transit can be intense sexual attraction (including to the point of obsession), uber-impatience & irritability, and manipulation, particularly in the sexual and financial realms.
Lower end Mars in Scorpio energies include: gratuitous sex with no emotional involvement; coveting another’s wife/girlfriend, boyfriend/husband, money/possessions, etc.–i.e., jealous, jealousy, jealousy…
Not the way to go or in your soul’s best interest as you attempt to move forward into greater consciousness!
So watch your heart and your wallet (or as my Capricorn mother used to say, your “pocketbook”), lest you mistake lust for love or money for happiness…
Remember, too, whatever is visited now in terms of these energies may be re-visited when Mars retrogrades back in Scorpio next spring & summer.
No need to resist the motivation to go deep about just about anything, but specifically about the inner workings of your own psyche, so that you may bring to light any hidden desires, jealousies, and/or passions.
Think of Mars’ time in Scorpio like that of a giant bulldozer, or earth digger, plunging deep into the ground to bring into the light the rubble that, when sifted through, will reveal the precious bits of metal hidden in the earth…
Move Mountains, Work A Miracle
Scorpio energy also has a lot to do with loyalty because Scorpio is a fixed sign that allows us to forge the iron bonds of trust with another human being.
This kind of trust is not lightly broken and is one of the reasons why revenge is a dish best served cold according to Mars in Scorpio when the Mars person has been betrayed or otherwise hoodwinked by another.
“I can move mountains
I can work a miracle, work a miracle
Keep you like an oath
May nothing but death do us part…”
Fall Out Boy
When Mars enters Scorpio, the choice is yours: You can set off the nuclear bomb and destroy the mountain or you can put your shoulder into it, work that miracle, and MOVE the mountain…

Can’t Buy Me Love…
Yesterday’s Taurus Full Moon reflected the Sun’s light back onto itself to highlight for us all the potential to bring transformation to that which we truly value.
While the Sun moves through the sign of Scorpio until November 22, its tells us it’s time for a change. In turn, the Taurus Moon’s heavenly glow casts its light on that which is ripe for such transformation.
This Taurus Full Moon–which occurs when the Moon opposes the Sun in the sky so that they may both “see” each other–reminds us that only when we can see clearly is it possible to be brought out of the dark in order to take conscious and direct action.
During this particular Full Moon period, we are asked to become aware of how these polar opposites of Taurus & Scorpio might best be reconciled & these energies utilized to transform what we value into something of even greater worth.
SAY YOU DON’T NEED NO DIAMOND RING
Full Moons are always about release. So what do we need to release in terms of our value system that allows us to grow with it (and thus achieve positive transformation?)
There is no higher form of VALUE or WORTH than SELF-WORTH.
In today’s world, whether or not we were told we were worthless as a child–or simply came to believe it on our own–there is no doubt that such sentiments (whether or not one is brave enough to utter them out loud) run rampant.
Seems to me there are two ways to deal with this situation: The first is to put into place what my mother used to call a “superiority complex,” which is to say a heightened–but feigned–sense of self-value that is not, in fact, a true reflection of one’s real emotional belief.
The second, simply put, is to feel worthless, whether one speaks of it or not…
This may be evidenced through numerous examples, from the striving for perfection (resulting in criticism of both oneself and others), to judging yourself (and sometimes others) harshly based on appearances rather than substance, to beating oneself up for not having the guts to value and express who you really are…
An over-inflated ego may lead to a distorted sense of one’s true value, whereas self-deprecating behavior gets you nowhere but stuck in your own myopic rut where nothing you do is of any value whatsoever…
BUT…IT’S ABOUT BALANCE, SILLY!
Deep down in the utter darkness of our solitary existential existence–during those moments when we realize we are TRULY alone–it’s our task to fill our own well from within in order to sustain ourselves through this journey we call life…
The first way to go about doing this–and, yes, it sounds SO very easy but really is quite difficult–is to seek balance about our beliefs.
Do we deem ourselves to be SO worthwhile that even ascending to the throne of king or queen (or better yet–to be anointed as a saint!) is beneath us?
Or do we feel stuck in the muck and mire of the realm of the lowliest creature on earth, not EVEN fit to eat the crumbs off of God’s table?
This Taurus Full Moon calls us to spend a little time in contemplation of these two extremes and in which direction lies our truest value…
Is it in what others told/tell us we were/are worth–and what we perhaps seemingly had NO CHOICE but to believe?
Or is it inherent in our right as human beings to consider that within each of us exists a spark of the divine?
The former mindset–even when it results in that superiority complex–does nothing but deflate, while the latter allows us to connect constantly and continuously to a higher realm…
And that higher realm is one in which we are each valued individually for the precious, loving, & creative humans we really truly are…
SO, WHAT’S IT WORTH TO YA?
It has struck me of late that ANYTHING we create–either individually or en masse–is beautiful.
Ah, the Scorpios amongst you are tittering now…”Really?” I hear you muttering, “is our SHIT beautiful?”
Truth be told, yes it is!
Taurus has connotations around holding on too tightly, not appreciating or accepting change, and moving too slow…
This fixity, while it does have a purpose–as Taurus is the archetypal energy that helps us to get things DONE–resists transformation like the plague!
However, when we look at Taurus energy as calm, constant, and creative (in its ability to manifest on the concrete physical plane), we can see how its higher side is capable of appreciating ALL of nature, be it in its glory or its decline…
So, even the things we normally discard have value…for example, without ridding ourselves of the toxins in our body, we become ill…
And without ridding ourselves of our false beliefs about what is the TRUTH of our own special creative nature and its ability to love and be loved, we may suffer greatly for having discarded out of hand the very best parts of ourselves…
Start by thinking about that which you need to discard and that which you need to keep. Perhaps your old ways of thinking are not based on CHOICE but rather habit. Perhaps you are ripe for change in this department now…
And starting slowly is always the Taurean way! Why not think of these Lennon & McCartney lyrics to “Can’t Buy Me Love” as a mantra through which you might introduce to yourself a whole new concept–but only if you apply them to the relationship with YOURSELF rather than with another:
“I’ll give you all I’ve got to give
If you say you love me too
I may not have a lot to give
But what I’ve got I’ll give to you
I don’t care too much for money
For money can’t buy me love…”
You gotta start somewhere, right?
As Shakespeare reminds us, self-love is NOT a sin…but self-neglect might as well be…

As the Sun enters Scorpio, want a quick way to figure out if someone carries Scorpio energy?
Ok, then here’s a tip: Ask them a question…
Yup, that’s what I said: Ask them a question!
If they answer with a question–then bingo!–you’ve identified them as Scorpionic…
Here’s an example:
Stranger: “Hi, what’s your name?”
Scorpio: “Who wants to know?”
The Scorpio archetype is about POWER…
The question then becomes: Is one empowered or dis-empowered?
Still Waters Run Deep
Intense, obsessive, deep, private, emotionally volatile, and transformative sum up this archetype.
Scorpio is the sign most interested in going deep, investigating anything deemed to be secret, taboo, socially unacceptable, risque, or otherwise inappropriate?
If you possess Scorpio energy, you might have been the kid who loved to pick up a rock and check out all the wriggling worms clinging to its bottom as you lifted it high above the ground…
…or perhaps you always want to know what makes someone or something tick…
Getting to the bottom of things is what Scorpio energy is all about!
For that reason they love to probe, prod, push, and persevere…never content with trite or superficial information or knowledge, those who carry this energy prefer to excavate it all, every last bit of dirt, dust, and dung, so they can sift through it all and find what they seek: the inner gold!
Change Or Be Changed
Pluto, named for the Roman god of the underworld (the Greeks knew him as Hades), was in charge of the portion of the world where spirits (also known as “shades”) dwell after the soul had left their physical body, i.e., upon death.
Therefore, Scorpio energy carries with it the connotation of all things having to do with death…
But this energy comes complete with the innate knowledge that death is necessary, because in order for something to be born, something must die. Such is the transformational cycle of death & rebirth.
The Scorpio archetype revolves around this need to transform; to not leave things the same as they were before.
And how does this happen?
By understanding that one must allow the old to die in order to make room for the new to be born.
Those who carry Scorpionic energy in their energetic make up are primed to understand the cycle of death and rebirth because without such transformation the universe would be a stagnant, stuck, boring kind of place.
“You Are Very Powerful, Provided You Know How Powerful You Are.” ~ Yogi Bhaja
So, back to the question of empowerment…
We all–at some point in life, be it early or later, are called to step into our own power.
When this happens, be it through the bully on the playground who demands our lunch money on a daily basis, or via other controlling influences or people in life, the universe presents us with one of our karmic choices.
When we’ve finally had enough and we haul off and belt the bully, who scampers away yelping like a wounded dog…
…we find–to our amazement!–that he was really a coward all along and not the powerful one AT ALL…
Likewise, when we consistently and consciously reject the call to empowerment and acquiesce again and again to what we deem to be the safer route to assure our continued existence, the reverse situation exists…
The Scorpio archetype knows full well that the latter kind of existence–when prolonged–can suck your soul down the drain with a quick flush, over and over again like a surreal moment in time replayed continuously…
To mire oneself in that unending vortex is to move karmically in the wrong direction.
We Must Travel In The Direction Of Our Fear.” ~ John Berryman
Self-empowerment stems from self-love, and the inherent notion that no one can take from us that which we really truly own.
Back to the playground: “You’re not the boss of me!” we may have cried out to the bully when we’d finally had enough and our instincts kicked in and we decided to fight even if it mean we could die…
And death it always was–to the old way…
Many of us face these kinds of crossroads over and over again in life, depending on our energetic makeup. But one thing is true: once empowered, there’s no going back!
We may become empowered all at once and thus our future trajectory is changed unalterably going forward…
…or we may be propelled forward little by little, day by day–as in the case of physical or mental illness when our steps toward empowerment need to be slow and measured for best results.
Either way, moving in the direction of that which we fear most represents true Scorpionic energy because such movement represents the capability to transform ourselves into the empowered beings we are all meant to be!
The highest form of Scorpio archetypal energy is represented by the Phoenix who rises from the ashes to be born anew so that he may soar high above–up and away from lowly control-based, power-obsessed energy.
Only then may one look down from the heavens and truly and objectively view the truth…
